Sayreville Planning Board member seeks to clarify info on wellfields I am writing to advise the public regarding information that appeared in an article about the Sayreville wellfields in the July 12 issue of the Suburban. I am a member of the Sayreville Planning Board, and when I read the article, I was shocked at the information it contained. First of all, the Monday night meeting was not the agenda meeting of the Borough Council, but in fact was the Planning Board meeting. Secondly, we are not considering possible uses for the wellfields. We have worked very hard over the past few months trying to come up with a way to save the wellfields from ever being developed or used for anything. The Planning Board, along with Mayor Kennedy O’Brien, hopes that one day soon the entire property will be dedicated to our dear friend and local environmentalist, Julian Capik. And with the dedication, we are trying to come up with a plan to create a new conservation zone that will be used to keep this beautiful area from ever being developed. Lastly, we are not and never will be considering this property for use as a golf course, hockey rink, fitness center or water park. Our water aquifers are far too important to risk losing, and this administration can see that. We did not direct the borough planner and borough engineer to come up with uses for the property. We directed them to look at the acreage and come back with advice on how much of the property we can include in our new conservation zone. Please print this information for the benefit of our citizens who cannot regularly attend the meetings and rely on the newspapers to provide them with details as to what they missed.
