Sayreville school board mulls sale of land near Eisenhower School

SAYREVILLE — The district may be selling a parcel of land at the Eisenhower School.

The Board of Education recently received a $250,001 bid from Williams Communi-cations, Tulsa, Okla., for a vacant parcel on the school property.

The firm wants to build a fiber optic regeneration pole near the outer perimeter of the Ernston Road school.

According to board member Curtis Clark, who is also a member of the borough’s Planning Board, the pole will not be visible from the street if installed. However, some on the board expressed concern about possible noise that a backup generator may cause.

Clark assured them that the diesel-fueled generator would be tested twice a month, after hours and would only serve as a backup generator.

Board member Al Cox said he would like to send a letter to the nearby Morgan First Aid Squad to see if it would like to purchase the land before entering into an agreement with any other company. According to board officials, the board has not been approached by anyone from the squad regarding the property.

A letter will be sent to the squad and the board is planning to investigate the proposal.

A recommendation on the property could come at the board’s August meeting.

If the measure is approved, funds from the sale would be placed in the district’s budget’s general fund, board President Kevin Ciak said.
