SWMHS theater group to stage ‘The Crucible’

The Sayreville War Memorial High School (SWMHS) Theatre Society will present Arthur Miller’s "The Crucible" at 7 p.m. on Nov. 21 and 22 at the high school, Washington Road, Parlin section of Sayreville.

The drama is set in 1692 Salem, Mass., during the time of the Salem witch trials. Miller tells the story of John Proctor, whose friends and family learn the consequences of fear, ignorance and superstition when a scorned woman fires up local officials to blame the town’s misfortunes on residents who are labeled as witches. The play was written as a metaphor for the McCarthy-era "witch hunt" for Communists in the 1950s.

Tickets cost $8 for adults, $6 for students and senior citizens. For more information, call (732) 525-5251.
