The Jersey Shore Running Club and Rumson Hash House Harriers held the 24th (at least) annual 6-Mile Trail Run on Nov. 10, to benefit the Kevin Stover Recovery Fund. Near-ideal conditions of a sunny day with cool temperatures greeted this year’s Hashathon runners at Cheesequake State Park. The overall winner of the 6.5-mile trail race was Dominic Grillo in a time of 38:45, and for the women it was JSRC’s Karen Charles in a time of 51:33.

ISA of New Jersey is looking for umpires for its 2004 softball programs. Its Central Jersey clinic begins in January. ASA, NSA, and Federation umpires are welcome. Experience not necessary. For more information call (732) 906-8263.

The Old Bridge Rockets soared to a 4-0 victory over the Lakehurst-Manchester Fireballs Sunday in Old Bridge. Goaltenders Alejandro Diaz and Harry Grewal, defenders Christian Llerena, Jordan Moretti, Init Patel, and windscreen Sami Abdisubhan led the charge with excellent defense on their way to their fourth clean sheet of the fall season.

Charles Mantione scored two goals, one on an assist from Christian Llerena and Nick Santurro and the other on a beautiful cross from Adam Eyerman. Other goals were scored on drives by Nick Petruzzi and Adam Eyerman. Sean Safari, Caine Czerula and Eric Medina, provided spirited play in a total team effort dedicated to Steven Contreras and his family.

The Level 7 gymnasts from Worldwide Gymnastics in Old Bridge finished in first place as a team for the third meet in a row on Nov. 12 at Rutgers University. Nicole Schwartz finished in first place on the uneven bars and the all-around competition. Ashley McQuade won the uneven bars and the balance beam and finished second in the all-around. Katie Hungrige finished second on the beam, third on the bars, and second in the AA. Nicole Yee was the top finisher on the vault, second on the bars and fourth in the AA. Stacey Coyle placed in every event and finished ninth in the AA.

On Nov. 17, the girls from Worldwide Gymnastics won their fourth meet in a row, and had all six gymnasts qualify for the state competition. Ashley McQuade finished in first place on the uneven bars and the beam, and finished second in the AA to Schwartz. Schwartz won the AA for the third time this year, and also took first on the vault. Stacey Coyle, who is competing for the first time at Level 7, finished fifth in the AA. Stephanie Fasano shined most on the beam, where she was the third-best performer of the day. She also finished seventh in the AA. Nicole Yee scored a 9.7 on the floor to finish second in the event, and took third in the AA. Katie Hungrige was the best beam performer of the day, taking first place, and finished second in the AA.

The Sayrewoods South Little League will hold registration on Dec. 5 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the SWSLL clubhouse on Fox Street (off Cindy Street). The fee is $65 for one child, $85 for two or more children, and $50 for t-ball (age 5). A work bond of $100 is due at registration. Upon completion of work hours, money will be promptly returned. The 2004 season includes all boys and girls born between Aug. 1, 1987, and July 31, 1999. A copy of his/her birth certificate is required at registration for all new players and will be retained for future reference.

Cheesequake Baseball and Softball, Old Bridge, will hold registration for the 2004 season on Dec. 6 and 7, and Jan. 24. Registration times are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cheesequake fields, Route 9 north and Schulmeister Road, Old Bridge. The Sayreville Little League will hold registration for the 2004 season at the clubhouse, located on the corner of Washington Road and Margaret Street, on Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon. Boys and girls ages 5-16 on or before July 31, 2004, are eligible. Registration fee is $65 for one child, $110 for two, and $140 for a family of three or more. A $100 work bond check is also required at this time, refundable after nine complete hours of volunteer work. Two separate checks required. Only registration check is cashed at this time. The U15 Old Bridge Roadrunners girls travel soccer team is looking for several experienced travel players to fill its roster for the spring 2004 season. The team will be playing in MOSA National 1 or National 2. The Roadrunners will card the team this summer so it can play in tournaments in either the fall or winter.
