      Emily Weiss Balletta
      Obituaries Emily Weiss Balletta

      Emily Weiss Balletta, 93, of Barnegat, formerly of Sayreville, died Sept. 10 in South Ocean County Hospital, Manahawkin. Her husband, Martin A. Balletta, died in 1989. Surviving are a daughter, Emily M. Balletta, with whom she lived; a son, Martin H. Balletta of Barnegat; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a friend, Anna Balletta of Hazlet. A Mass was offered at St. Bernadette’s Church, Parlin section of Old Bridge. Interment was in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to Barnegat First Aid Squad, P.O. 729, Barnegat, NJ 08005.

      Cornelius M. Fogarty

      Cornelius M. Fogarty, 81, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen, died Sept. 9 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. He is survived by his wife, Theresa Francabandara Fogarty of Cliffwood Beach; his son, Joseph Fogarty of Mount Holly; five daughters, Theresa Cotter of Mount Laurel, Rose Farley and Kathleen Simnor of Old Bridge, Gloria Page of Cliffwood Beach, and Mary Kosmyna of Cliffwood; 19 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Burial was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

      Mary June Anderson Halsey

      Mary June Anderson Halsey, 80, of Carteret, formerly of the Morgan section of Sayreville and the Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge, died Sept. 12 at home. Surviving are her husband, Jack Halsey; a son, John F. "Jack" Hanaway of the Lanoka Harbor section of Lacey; a daughter, Mildred H. Halsey of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; two sisters, Mildred Dix of South Portland, Maine, and Lois A. Anderson of Belmar; a brother, Harold Anderson of the Parlin section of Sayreville; six grandchildren; and nine grandchildren. Services were held at Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy. Interment was in Clover Leaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge.

      Matthew J. Piskadlo

      Matthew J. Piskadlo, 87, of Lancaster, Pa., formerly of South River, died Sept. 14 at home. Surviving are his wife, Leona "Lodz" Mickiewicz Piskadlo; a son, Chester Grabowski of Corpus Christi, Texas; a daughter, Virginia Bowman of Lancaster; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A Mass is planned for 9 a.m. on Sept. 18 at St. Mary of Ostrabrama Church, South River. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick.       Leandra Dominick Runck

      Leandra Dominick Runck, 46, of Cincinnati, formerly of Sayreville, died Sept. 10 at home. Surviving are her hus­band, Dennis Runck; two daughters, Ashley and Casey Jo, both at home; her par­ents, Joseph and Edna Sumski Dominick of Sayreville; a sister, Lou Ann Didik of Sayreville; a brother, Joseph David Dominick of Brick; and four nieces. A Mass was offered at St. Mary of Ostrabrama Church, South River. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Children Hospital, Cincinnati.

      Daniel Charles Smith

      Daniel Charles Smith, 42, of Old Bridge, formerly of Aberdeen and Keyport, died Sept. 11 at home. Surviving are his mother, Bernadette McDonald-Smith of Old Bridge; a brother, Richard H. Smith of Old Bridge; a sister, Geraldine A. Opitz of Howell; and two nephews and two nieces. Services were held at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. Interment was in St. John’s Cemetery, Queens, N.Y.

      William Alan Sleavin

      William Alan Sleavin, 69, of East Brunswick died Sept. 11 at home. Surviving are his wife, Gail A. Liftchild Sleavin; a son, William J. of Simsbury, Conn.; two daughters, Carolyn Coppola of Holmdel and Alice E. Sleavin of East Brunswick; a sis­ter, Linda Weiss of Floral Park, N.Y.; a granddaughter; and a nephew. Services were held at Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834.

      Joseph M. Soman

      Joseph M. Soman of Howell died Aug. 11. Mr. Soman was born in Beacon, N.Y. Mr. So­man was prede­ceased by his wife, Sheila Knox Whalen, in 2001. Surviving are eight children, Jeffrey of Wilmette, Ill., Laurie of Berkeley, Calif., Nancy of Voorhees, Lisa of East Brunswick, Kathryn of Manhattan, N.Y., Page of Howell, Sarah of San Francisco, and Victo­ria of How­ell; a brother, Dewey of Poughkeep­sie, N.Y.; several cousins; and eight grandchil­dren. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Veronica’s Roman Catholic Church, Route 9, Howell. Memorial donations may be made to The Cancer Insti­tute of New Jersey, 195 Little Albany St., New Brunswick 08901. The C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia section of Howell, is in charge of arrangements.

      Raymond Styles IV

      Raymond Styles IV, 41, of Boulder, Colo., formerly of East Brunswick, died Sept. 10 in Boulder. Surviving are his wife, Kathy Bilicic Styles; his father, Raymond Styles III of Sayreville; his mother and stepfather, Carol and John Dahlquist of East Brunswick; a brother, Christopher Styles of East Brunswick; his grandmoth­ers, Rose Ann Styles of Old Bridge and Bertha Timens of the Toms River section of Dover; two aunts; one uncle; and two nephews. Services were held at Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick. Entombment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Memorial contri­butions may be made to Naropa University, Boulder, Colo.

      James G. Varga

      James G. Varga, 84, of North Brunswick died Sept. 7 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in New Brunswick, he resided in Old Bridge for 15 years before moving to North Brunswick in 1984. He was a machine operator at Permacel Tape Corp., North Brunswick, for 48 years, retiring in 1986. He was predeceased by a son, James A. Varga, in 1995. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Mondi Varga of North Brunswick; four sons, Richard Varga of Plainsboro, Wayne Varga of East Windsor, Thomas Varga of North Brunswick, and Anthony Varga of Mer­rimack, N.H.; and three grandchildren. Ar­rangements were by Selover Funeral Home, North Brunswick.

      Helen E. Burke Spinler

      Helen E. Burke Spinler, 52, of the Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge, died Sept. 16 at Union Hospital, Union. Born in Jersey City, she resided in South Brunswick and South Amboy before moving to Laurence Harbor nine years ago. She was employed at Gund Inc., Edison. Prior to that, she worked at Tingley Rubber Corp., South Plainfield, for 24 years. She was a communicant of St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Laurence Harbor, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was predeceased by her father, James Burke, in 1985. She is sur­vived by her daughter and son-in-law, Saman­tha and Dustin Scott of Quakertown, Pa.; her mother, Pauline Burke of Laurence Harbor; her brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Pa­tricia Burke of South Plainfield; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Catherine Burke of Laurence Harbor, and Marian and Peter Stamatis of Sayreville; and six nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was of­fered at St. Lawrence church. Interment was at Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy. Arrangements were by The Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy.

      Estelle Washko

      Estelle Washko, 89, of Palm Coast, Fla., formerly of Old Bridge and Milltown, died in Sept. 9 in Palm Coast. She and her late husband, Benjamin J. Washko Sr., owned and operated Midway Garage, Old Bridge, and South Side Auto Garage, Milltown. Surviving are a son, Benjamin J. Washko Jr. of Palm Coast; a daughter, Phyllis Puskas of Cape Cod, Mass.; a sister, Martha Kuchinski of Englishtown; four grandchil­dren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Graveside services were held at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Jamesburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Florida Hospital, Memorial Hospice Care, 875 Sterthaw Ave., Ormond Beach, FL 32174-9976.

      Mary Boshko Zielinski

      Mary Boshko Zielinski, 88, of East Brunswick died Sept. 11 at home. Her hus­band died in 1960. Surviving are a son, George Zielinski; a brother, Peter Boshko of Jamesburg; two sisters, Sophie Yonkman of Old Bridge and Olga Miller of Michigan; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Mary of Ostrabrama Church, South River. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick.

      Mary M. Hogan Williscroft

      Mary M. Hogan Williscroft, 87, of South River died Sept. 16 in Barbara E. Cheung Memorial Hospice, Edison. Her husband, Herbert, died in 1977, and a son, Herbert, died in 1996. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Horvath of South River; a son, Robert of East Brunswick; a sister, Naomi Martin of Rutland, Vt.; four brothers, Joseph Hogan of Florida, Al Hogan of Belle Mead, Leon Hogan of Bethlehem, Pa., and Ronald Hogan of Tennessee; 11 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild. A Mass is planned for 9 a.m. on Sept. 18 at Corpus Christi Church, South River. Interment will follow in Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River.
