Obituaries Mrs. Kahan, 97, of East Brunswick died Nov. 25 in Summerhill Nursing Home, Old Bridge. Her husband, Michael, died in 1988. Surviving are a son, Simon of Paramus; a daughter, Renee Trachtenberg of East Brunswick; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services were held at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan. Interment was in Cedar Park Cemetery, Paramus. Geertruida Zwemmer Lunde Mrs. Lunde, 74, of Sayreville died Nov. 27 in Reformed Church Home, Old Bridge. Surviving are three daughters, Lydia Clark of Sayreville, Alida DeGiosafatto of Middlesex and Deborah Lunde of East Brunswick; many brothers and sisters in Holland; and five grandchildren. Services were held at Reformed Church of Metuchen. Memorial contributions may be made to the local chapter of the American Heart Association. John "Jack" Sekula Mr. Sekula, 83, of Sayreville died Nov. 26 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to his retirement in 1976, he was employed by E.I. DuPont Fabric and Finish Division, Parlin section of Sayreville, where he worked for 47 years. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Karwacky Sekula; a daughter, Debra Sekula of Sayreville; and a nephew, Dr. Chester T. Karr of East Brunswick. A Mass was offered at St. Mary of Ostrabrama Church, South River. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick. Edwin F. Kern Mr. Kern, 92, of South River died Dec. 6 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Prior to his retirement, was the owner, with his brother William Kern, of Kern’s Market, South River. His wife, Mildred Beauregard Kern, died in 1983. Surviving are two nieces, Kimberly Creech of Clifton, Virginia and Lou Ann Hauserman of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; and his companion, Ann Agan, and her family. Services were held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, East Brunswick. Interment was in Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Presbyterian Church Women’s Circle or Youth Connection. A memorial service will be held at noon on Dec. 14 at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Dianna Marie Aszman Ms. Aszman, 45, of Asbury Park, formerly of Spotswood, died Dec. 5 at home. Surviving are her parents, Harry and Deanna DuCharme Aszman; two brothers, Harry of Millstone and Gary of the Somerset section of Franklin; and four nieces and nephews. A Mass is planned for 9 a.m. on Dec. 11 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery, Jamesburg. Sylvia Jaffe Mrs. Jaffe, 90, of Monroe died Dec. 6 in the Elms of Cranbury. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Irwin Jaffe. Surviving are two sons, Bruce Joel Jaffe of Spotswood and Kent Edward Jaffe of Highland Park, Ill.; a sister, Pearl Lazar; a brother, Arthur Rittner; three grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Arrangements were under the direction of A.S. Cole Funeral Home, Cranbury. Interment was in Cloverleaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Josephine E. Hickey Mrs. Hickey, 88, of Cedar Glen Lakes, Whiting section of Manchester, died Dec. 3 in Community Medical Center, Toms River section of Dover. Her husband, Frederick Hickey, died in 1991. Surviving are a son, James H. Hickey Sr. of Whiting; a daughter, Loretta Bryan of Florence, S.C.; a brother, Frank Krupa of the Dayton section of South Brunswick; a sister, Ann Cegielski of South River; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Englishtown. Interment was in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Edward W. Osiecki Mr. Osiecki, 88, of East Brunswick, formerly of Edison, died Dec. 6 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. His wife, Justine, died in 1981, and a daughter, Stacy Keyes, died in 1987. Surviving are a daughter, Patti Borak of East Brunswick; a son-in-law, John Keyes of Naperville, Ill.; and three grandchildren. A Mass is planned for 10 a.m. on Dec. 11 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Milltown. Interment will follow in St. Stephen Cemetery, Keasbey section of Woodbridge. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 233 Main St., Milltown, NJ 08850. Mary A. Dobzinski Shepanski Mrs. Shepanski, 79, of North Brunswick died Dec. 3 at St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Nanticoke, Pa., she resided in East Brunswick for 45 years, prior to moving to North Brunswick in 2001. She was employed at Greater New York Insurance Co., East Brunswick, before her retirement. She was a communicant St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church, East Brunswick, and a member of the parish’s Altar Rosary Society. She also was a member of the East Brunswick Historical Society. Mrs. Shepanski was predeceased by her husband, Leonard T. Shepanski, in 1986. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nan and Bruce Kessler of North Brunswick; three sisters, Sophie Oslowski of Spotswood, Christine Dembowski of Kingston, Pa., and Irene Polnasek of Barrington; and two grandsons. Burial was at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. The Brunswick Memorial Funeral Home, East Brunswick, was in charge of arrangements.
