Obituaries Karen T. Tierney Pisarczyk Mrs. Pisarczyk, 55, of Old Bridge and Matawan, died Oct. 26 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. She was predeceased by her father, Joseph Tierney. Surviving are her husband, Charles Pisarczyk; her mother, Madeline Tierney of the Lanoka Harbor section of Lacey; two sons, Christopher Pisarczyk and Edward Pisarczyk, both of Old Bridge; two brothers, Patrick Tierney and Leo Tierney, both of Lacey; a sister, Joan Traxinger of Lanoka Harbor; and two grandchildren. Entombment was in Holmdel Mausoleum. Arrangements were under the direction of Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Dorothy M. Dietrich Peoples Mrs. Peoples, 94, of Old Bridge, died Oct. 29 in Madison Care Center, Old Bridge. Her husband, Porter Peoples Jr., died in 1998, and a daughter, Dotti West, died in 2003. Surviving are a daughter, Frances Baker; a son, Bob Peoples; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services were held at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. Interment was in Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet.
Frank J. O’Neill Mr. O’Neill, 64, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died Nov. 1 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Surviving are his wife, Nicolyn Emanuel O’Neill; a son, Michael of Parlin; two daughters, Nicolyn Hastings of Hamilton and Kerry O’Neill of Parlin; and a sister, Patricia Meyers of Yorktown Heights, N.Y. A Mass is planned for 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 4 at St. Bernadette’s Church, Parlin section of Old Bridge. Private cremation will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Fernando E. Flores Mr. Flores, 80, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died Oct. 23 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy division. He was predeceased by his wife, Janet Flores, and by a son, Fernando Flores Jr. Surviving is a daughter, Donna Flores of Parlin. A Mass was offered at Our Lady of Victories Church, Sayreville. Interment was in New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin.
William E. Eldridge Mr. Eldridge, 89, of South Amboy, died Oct. 26 in Lincoln Park Renaissance Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. His wife, Mary Coughlin Eldridge, died in 2002. Surviving are two daughters, Helen Petriello of Bloomfield and Carol Westervelt of Riverdale; and eight grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Mary’s Church, South Amboy. Entombment was in St. Mary’s Mausoleum, also South Amboy.
William D. Smith Mr. Smith, 39, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of South Amboy, died Oct. 21 in Las Vegas. His father, Richard L. Smith, died in 1996. Surviving are a son, Jesse Smith of Las Vegas; three daughters, Danielle Smith of Metuchen and Amy and Allison Smith, both of Las Vegas; his mother, Anna Marie Fisher Smith of South Amboy; two brothers, Richard Smith of Liberty, Texas, and Michael Smith of Bayonne; and three sisters, Patricia Zielinski of the Hewitt section of West Milford, Kathleen Kellenbenz of Philadelphia and Donna Marie Smith of Plainsboro. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements were under the direction of Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy.
Florence Gawron Czernikowski Mrs. Czernikowski, 88, of Sayreville, died Oct. 28 in St. Peter’s University Medical Center, New Brunswick. She was a member of the District 3 Democratic Club. She was predeceased by her husband, John E. Czernikowski, a former mayor of Sayreville. Surviving are sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A Mass was offered at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Sayreville. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Pasquale “Pat” Sorrentino Mr. Sorrentino, 90, of South Amboy, died Oct. 30. Surviving are his wife, Helen Jakubczak Sorrentino; a son, William Sorrentino of Cherry Hill; two daughters, Beverly Wojie of Watchung and Barbara Maiorelli of Roselle Park; two brothers, Felix Sorrentino of Blacksburg, Va., and Albert Sorrentino of South Amboy; nine grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. A Mass is planned for 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 4 at St. Mary’s Church, South Amboy. Interment will follow in St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia section of Woodbridge. Stanley F. Skarzynski Mr. Skarzynski, 83, of East Brunswick, died Oct. 26 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to his retirement in 1986, he was employed at DuPont Photo Products, Sayreville, where he worked for 45 years. Surviving are his wife, Martha “Pat” Harrill Rademacher Skarzynski; four daughters, Jo-Ann Simons of East Brunswick, Susan Wall of the Lanoka Harbor section of Lacey, Mary Jo Henry of the Toms River section of Dover and Lisa Rademacher of Riverdale; a son, Jacob Rademacher of Piscataway; 13 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A liturgy was offered at St. Bartholomew’s Church, East Brunswick. Entombment was in Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum, South Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
John A. Sauer, Ph.D. Dr. Sauer, 92, of East Brunswick, professor emeritus at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, died Oct. 31 at home. He became a general engineering instructor at Rutgers in 1936. In 1946 he was named professor and chairman of the Engineering Mechanics Department, and later chairman of the Physics Department, at The Pennsylvania State University, State College, Pa., where he taught until 1963. He returned to Rutgers in 1963 as professor and chairman of the Department of Mechanics and Material Science and served as acting dean of the College of Engineering in 1977. His wife, Marion Short Sauer, died in August. Surviving are two daughters, Pamela Smith of Camarillo, Calif., and Virginia Sauer, M.D., of Lafayette, Calif.; a brother, Herb Sauer of Falmouth, Maine; a sister, Helen Domarcki of the Monmouth Beach section of South Brunswick; and two grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Bartholomew’s Church, East Brunswick. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Make memorial contributions to Rutgers University, the American Cancer Society, or the charity of one’s choice.
