Obituaries Anastasia Gemza Shlanta Mrs. Shlanta, 95, of Sayreville, died Jan. 29 in Brier Wood Care Center, Sayreville. Her husband, Paul Shlanta, died in 1992, and a daughter, Mary Shlanta, died in 1963. Surviving are a son, Paul Shlanta Jr. of Middlesex; a sister, Dorothy Krzyzkowski of Sayreville; and a niece, Judith Kryzkowski of Sayreville. A Mass was offered at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Sayreville. Interment was in Lake Nelson Cemetery, Piscataway.
Helen Jane Loso Mrs. Loso, 74, of Old Bridge, formerly of Perth Amboy and Keyport, died Jan. 31 in Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. She was a parishioner of Jesus The Lord Roman Catholic Church, Keyport, where she served as an organist from 1982-1994. Her husband, George C. Loso, died in 1996. Surviving are a daughter, Karen Aurilio of Old Bridge; a son, Francis “Frank” Loso of Aberdeen; and one granddaughter. A Mass was offered at Jesus The Lord Church. Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, South Amboy.
Wolfgang M. Loeffler Mr. Loeffler, 72, of Sayreville, died Jan. 30 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. His wife, Elisabeth Hessheimer Loeffler, died in 1998. Surviving are a son, Daniel Loeffler of Sayreville; a daughter, Sandra Boero of Manahawkin; a brother and a sister, both in Germany; three grandchildren; and a life companion, Sigrid Rey of Germany. Arrangements were under the direction of Sayreville Memorial Funeral Home.
Esther Skordinski Fort Mrs. Fort, 88, of Monroe, formerly of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died Jan. 28 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Her husband, Edward Fort, died in 1989. Surviving are two daughters, Audrey O’Brien of Pittston, Pa., and Irene Bastek of Monroe; two sisters, Helen Day of Dallas, Pa., and Kay Zaharchuk of the Hamilton Square section of Hamilton; two brothers, Andrew Skordinski of Mount Pocono, Pa., and Michael Skordinski of Florida; and two grandchildren. A service was held at Sts. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, South River. Interment was in Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River.
William G. Hromada Mr. Hromada, 83, of Old Bridge, died Jan. 27 in Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. He was predeceased by a grandson, William F. Demarest. Surviving are his wife, Frances Petrick Hromada; two sons, William J. of Beverly, Mass., and Matthew F. of Camp Verde, Ariz.; a daughter, Diana Demarest of Old Bridge; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at Most Holy Redeemer Church, Old Bridge. Entombment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, South Amboy.
Irene Kenyo Burkshot Mrs. Burkshot, 94, of Sayreville, formerly of South River, died Jan. 30 in Madison Center, Old Bridge. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a machine operator with General Cigar, South Amboy, and worked as a seamstress through the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Her husband, George Burkshot, died in 1967. Surviving are a son, Gary of Sayreville; and two grandchildren, Jamie Burkshot and Danielle Burkshot. Services were held at Messiah Lutheran Church, Parlin section of Sayreville. Interment was in Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River.
Joseph F. Borkowski Mr. Borkowski, 86, of Spotswood, died Jan. 26 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Surviving are his wife, Mary Denick Borkowski; a daughter, Janet Mahoney of Sayreville; a sister, Mary Kusy of Franklin Lakes; and two grandchildren. A Mass was offered at Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood. Entombment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
Evelyn J. Weber Mrs. Weber, 75, of Old Bridge, died Jan. 28 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. She was a greeter and a Eucharistic minister at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Surviving are her husband, Kenneth, and several nieces and nephews. A Mass was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Interment was in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick.
Eugene R. Sweeney Mr. Sweeney, 60, of Elizabeth, formerly of Old Bridge and Monroe, died Jan. 31 in Trinatas Hospital, Elizabeth. Surviving are two sons, Andrew of Boca Raton, Fla., and Matthew of Monroe; a daughter, Robin of Boca Raton; and a sister, Maureen Turiello of Red Bank. Interment was in Alpine Cemetery, Perth Amboy. George Dikovicky Mr. Dikovicky, 78, of South River, died Jan. 27 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Prior to his retirement in 1989, he was employed as a driver with the South River Sanitation Department, where he worked for 32 years. Surviving are a son, George Stan of Old Bridge; a daughter, Donna Kowalski of Edison; two sisters, Olga Drwal of Sayreville and Mary Martinowich of Piscataway; a brother, Anthony Dikovicky of Roselle Park; and three grandchildren. Services were held Maliszewski Funeral Home, South River. Interment was in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, South River.
Alfred J. Bonus Mr. Bonus, 77, of Sayreville, died Feb. 2 at home. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a machine operator with Algro Knitting Mills, Milltown, where he worked for 40 years. He was predeceased by three brothers, Victor, Stanley and Frank, and by a sister, Lottie Geresy. Surviving are a brother, Walter J. Bonus of Spotswood; two sisters, Helen Solook of Sayreville and Eleanor Roman of East Brunswick; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A Mass was offered at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Sayreville. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Thomas Grant Buchan Mr. Buchan, 86, of Helmetta, formerly of Monroe, died Feb. 4 at home. He retired in 1981 from National Lead, Sayreville, where he worked for 30 years. Prior to his full retirement in 1990, he owned T. Buchan Plumbing and Heating, Helmetta, for more than 30 years. Surviving are his wife, Grace Hoffman Buchan; two sons, Thomas Buchan and William Buchan; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services were held at Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood. Interment was in Reformed Church Cemetery, also Spotswood. Viola M. Wosycna Garboski Mrs. Garboski, 89, of East Brunswick, died Feb. 1 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to her retirement in 1951, she was employed as a seamstress with Brodsky and Sons, South River, where she worked for 25 years. Her husband, Lawrence, died in 1985. Surviving are two daughters, Teresa VonDeesten and Cynthia Todoroff, both of East Brunswick; two sisters, Bernice Castagilia of Lyndhurst and Helen Stockel of the Parlin section of Sayreville; and four grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Bartholomew’s Church, East Brunswick. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick.
