Grants fund improvement projects at two facilities

SAYREVILLE — The borough recently received two grants totaling $240,000 to perform improvements at its historical society and public library buildings.

State Assemblyman John S. Wisniewski last week presented a symbolic check to the mayor and Borough Council for the total amount of the grants. The funding was obtained with Wisniewski’s help through the Statewide Livable Communities Grant program in the state Department of Community Affairs.

The first grant, in the amount of $150,000, will fund the installment of an elevator that complies with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), as well as ADA-compliant restrooms and doors at the Sayreville Historic Society building at 425 Main Street.

The second is a grant in the amount of $90,000 to expand the parking lot at the Sayreville Free Public Library, 1050 Washington Road.

“This money will go a long way toward providing property tax relief while allowing the borough to complete some worthwhile projects,” Wisniewski said. “I’m happy to be able to help the borough receive much-needed funds to make improvements for every resident of Sayreville.”
