Batko deserves seat on Sayreville school board

I have always considered children and people-power as two of our most precious resources. That is why I am always concerned about candidates seeking elective office.

On April 19 Sayreville voters will be asked to elect three candidates, out of a field of nine, to serve as members of our local school board. This election is indeed an ideal opportunity for parents and voters to show they care and to help make a difference in our schools.

To initiate any type of change, residents must exercise their right to vote. For any school system to be successful and effective, there is a need for strong leadership qualities and to be an advocate for education. Most everyone will agree that education is the key to success in life for our children.

Needless to say, it is totally disheartening that in our community we have no female representatives in any elected capacity. As a woman, I felt a deep sense of pride when Phyllis Batko announced her candidacy for the Board of Education. She does not hesitate to question issues and has demonstrated her ability to tell it straight without regard to pleasing political factions.

Phyllis has an outstanding record of community involvement and is highly qualified to serve as a member of the board. She holds an master of business administration degree in finance, is a former Borough Council member, a PTO officer, and has served to assist senior citizens with their income taxes. She is a graduate of our local school system and has two children in the system.

Please help elect Phyllis Batko and her running mates, Tom Biesiada and Niel Gaglione, who will be responsible to the goals and aims of others and will provide a level of integrity the public deserves. They will work hard to build a brighter future for our children and our schools.
