Letters Residents deserve thanks for support of school budget On behalf of the Sayreville Board of Education, I would like to extend my thanks to all the Sayreville residents who supported our budget and high school referendum on April 19. The board was hopeful that residents would approve the funding of the expansion of the high school so that the board could not only relieve overcrowding in grades 9-12, but also take advantage of the $13.9 million in state funding that will allow us to complete this project on time and to minimize the project’s impact on local property taxes. In addition, the approved budget means that many of the facilities upgrades throughout the district that have been put off year after year will finally be accomplished during this school year. District curricula will continue to be revised so that we can continue to offer an updated and energizing educational program. Programs involving technology will continue to expand, and programs such as full-day kindergarten and hazardous busing will be permitted to continue. In addition, budgetary funding will also allow us to offer much-needed remedial programs to those students who truly require them so that test scores in the district will continue to rise and reflect Sayreville’s commitment to education. While Sayreville will remain a district with one of the lowest per-pupil costs in the state, the amount of money going directly to classroom instruction will continue to increase. Our children needed you to vote yes, and you came through for them. On behalf of the children of Sayreville, the board extends its humble thanks to you for your support.
