Fund-raisers

Sept. 22

• Collection for the Victims of Hurricane Katrina, sponsored by Assemblyman John S. Wisniewski (D-19th) and Sayreville Borough Council members Tom Pollando, Dennis Grobelny and Daniel Buchanan. Contributions may include money (checks should made out to the United Way of Central New Jersey with “Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief” in the memo line); cases of bottled water; canned food, including peanut butter, canned chili, pasta, beef stew; disposable diapers. Drop off donations at Assemblyman Wisniewski’s district office, 3145 Bordentown Ave., Suite B, Parlin section of Sayreville.

Sept. 23

• Phills Brothers Sunshine Magic Circus, to benefit the Hemophilia Association of New Jersey, 7:30 p.m., at East Brunswick High School, Cranbury Road. Two children admitted free of charge with one paid adult. Tickets for adults cost $5 each and will be available at the door. Call the Hemophilia Association at (732) 249-6000.

• Spaghetti Dinner, sponsored by the Milltown Lions Club, 5-8 p.m., at the Milltown Senior Citizens Center, Violet Terrace. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, $2 for children. Cash bar. Wine, beer, soft drinks available. Proceeds benefit the visually impaired. (732) 329-7600.

Sept. 24

• Oktoberfest, sponsored by St. Stanislaus Kostka HSA, 2-9 p.m., on the St. Stan’s School grounds, 225 MacArthur Ave., Sayreville. Games, wheels, rides, entertainment, children’s activities, beer garden, food. Youngsters pay one price and go on rides from 2-6 p.m. or 6-9 p.m. In case of inclement weather, event will take place from 1-8 p.m. on Sept. 25. (732) 254-0212.

• Jamesburg Townwide Fall Yard and Sidewalk Sale, sponsored by the Jamesburg Area Chamber of Commerce, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. • Barbecued Chicken Dinner, sponsored by the United Methodist Women of Simpson United Methodist Church, 5-7 p.m., at the church, 2095 Route 516 at Owens Road, Old Bridge. Sept. 25

• Congregation Beth Ohr Fall Fund-raiser, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., at Barnes and Noble, Route 18, East Brunswick, outside Brunswick Square Mall. A portion of the bookstore’s proceeds will be donated to the Old Bridge synagogue. Special vouchers available at the event. (732) 257-1523.

Sept. 27

• Jimmy Moran Family Fund Benefit Dinner, sponsored by the Firefighting Friends of Jimmy Moran, 4-11 p.m., at Champps Americana Restaurant, Menlo Park Mall, Edison. Moran, age 36, a member of South Amboy Mechanicsville Hose Company No. 1, has been a volunteer firefighter since he was 16 years old. Recently diagnosed with lung cancer, he is undergoing radiation and chemotherapy. Proceeds go to offset the financial impact of Moran’s medical treatments. Champps will donate 10 percent of its profits from the event directly to the Jimmy Moran Family Fund. Tickets not required. Special appearance by the Middlesex County Pipe and Drums Corps. • Dinner to Benefit the Victims of Hurricane Katrina, 7 p.m., at Old New York Restaurant and Nightclub, 2658 Route 516, Old Bridge. Free buffet, silent auction, karaoke event. Cost is $20, all of which will be donated to hurricane victims. Sept. 29
