Minor injuries reported in bus, truck collision
BY LAUREN MATTHEW
Staff Writer

OLD BRIDGE — A collision on a Route 9 north access road last week caused several injuries and traffic problems, according to police.

At 6:30 a.m. Sept. 14, a truck owned by Jake’s Hardwood Flooring was merging onto the access road from Route 516. At the same time, a NJ Transit bus was traveling north on the access road.

When the truck went around a curve in the ramp, police said, its driver tried to avoid colliding with the bus, but a collision propped both vehicles onto their driver’s-side tires as they were moving.

The truck rolled onto its side, while the bus stayed upright and ran across the median, coming to rest on the shoulder of Route 9, police said.

Ten injuries were reported, but they were believed to be minor in nature. A 40-year-old woman was taken to Raritan Bay Medical Center’s Old Bridge division for treatment of a knee injury. A fire department and Rural Metro first aid responded to the scene.

The accident left a gouge in the blacktop at the accident site, according to police Lt. Robert Weiss.

As a result of the collision, traffic backed up for approximately three hours on routes 9 and 516, he said.

NJ Transit picked up the bus, police said, and the truck had to be towed. The driver of the truck, Orlando DaSilva, of Old Bridge, was issued a summons for careless driving, police said.
