Haunted house tours set for historic village

The East Brunswick Museum, 16 Maple St., will offer guided “Haunted House Tours of Historic Old Bridge” Oct. 28 from 7-9 p.m.

Tours will be through the historic district and will include accounts of local hauntings. Treats, apple bobbing and story telling will follow at the museum. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for members, and $1 for children younger than age 12. For more information, call the museum, (732) 257-1508.

Strings, Mummers

to perform in Sayreville

The Sayreville Cultural Arts Council will present The Happy Days String Band and The Mummers in a concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 3 at the Sayreville Senior Center, 423 Main St.

Women of Simpson UMC bazaar, café Nov. 5

The event will be held rain or shine and will feature homemade baked goods, crafts, decorations, gift baskets for auction, and used items. The café will be serving breakfast and lunch.

‘Simpatico’ auditions

scheduled for Nov. 6, 7

Circle Players will hold auditions for Sam Shepard’s “Simpatico” at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 6 and Nov. 7 at the theater, 416 Victoria Ave., Piscataway. Callbacks, if necessary, will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 9.

Director Joseph Porter is seeking three women in their 20s-40s and three men, ages 40 to 60-plus. Photos and résumés are a plus. Short monologues are welcome but not required. Audition readings will be from provided sides.

Show dates and times will be Jan. 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 at 8 p.m. and Jan. 15 and 22 at 3 p.m.

Holt sets town meeting

The event is open to the public and will feature brand name kitchenware, toys, baskets and candles. Attendees may also place orders or purchase on-site from catalogs. Children’s Halloween Tricky Tray scheduled

St. Stan’s Athletic Association will host its annual Children’s Halloween Tricky Tray on Oct. 29 in the auditorium at St. Stanislaus Kostka School, 221 MacArthur Ave., Sayreville. Doors will open at noon. A costume parade will take place at 1:30 p.m.

Raffle drawings will begin at 2 p.m. Prizes will include bicycles, a karaoke machine, a DVD player and sports items.

The Lakeview School Parents Association, Edison, will sponsor an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner and tricky tray from 3-7 p.m. on Oct. 30 at East Brunswick Elks Lodge No. 2370, 20 Oakmont Ave., off Hardenburg Lane, East Brunswick.

Salon hair stylists will donate their time and offer women’s, men’s and children’s haircuts, as well as manicures, parafin hand treatments and facial waxings, all at discounted prices.

All proceeds (including tips) will benefit research, treatment and education programs in cancer, HIV, AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses at the City of Hope National Medical Center and Beckman Research Institute, Duarte, Calif.

S.R. fourth annual Fall Festival Oct. 30

The South River Cultural Arts and Heritage Commission will celebrates its fourth annual Fall Festival and the “Frost on the Pumpkin Race,”held Sunday, Oct. 30 from noon to 4 p.m. at Dailey’s Pond Park, Prospect and William Street, South River.

Marching band units

to compete at SWMHS

The Sayreville War Memorial High School (SWMHS) Marching Unit and Band Parents Association will host their 20th annual Night of a Thousand Stars marching unit field competition beginning at 5 p.m. on Nov. 5 on the high school field, Washington Road, Parlin section of Sayreville. Gates will open at 4 p.m. Approximately 10 marching bands from surrounding communities will compete in the U.S. Scholastic Bands Association-sanctioned event.

Halloween events at

Sayreville Library Oct. 29

Sayreville Public Library, 1050 Washington Road, Parlin, will present a Halloween show for preschoolers ages 5 and younger Oct. 29 at 10 a.m. Children may wear costumes to the show, which will feature music, movement and stories.

A show for children in grades K-3 will be presented at 10:45 a.m., and children may wear costumes. It will feature songs and folk tales.

Storyteller Jesslyn Wheeless will be featured at both free programs.

A free “Halloween Bash” for teens ages 12-18 will be held 2-4 p.m. and will feature a murder mystery, “fear factor” food challenge, a “mummy wrap” race and costume contest (costumes are mandatory). Registration is required; call (732) 727-0212, ext. 5.
