The Old Bridge Hustlers U12 girls softball team took first place in the 2006 annual Tournament of Champions held at the Dan Duquette Sports Complex in Pittsfield, Mass. Representing New Jersey, the Old Bridge girls were paired against some of the Northeast's best travel teams in the three-day round-robin event. In game one against Adams, Mass., the Hustler girls opened the tournament with a convincing 9-2 victory led by strong pitching from Paige Weo and Taylor Kaplan, who combined for a two-hitter. Timely hits by Jess Bucci and Brianne Kennedy fed the offensive attack. Paige Pentland's complete game and continued aggressive hitting led the Hustlers to an impressive 14-2 victory in game two. Natalie Norcutt, Gianna Conte and Heather Forziati each had two hits in the victory over Miss Chen, N.Y. Game three pitted the undefeated Hustlers against the unscored-upon Concord, Mass., Raiders with the top seed on the line. Jaime Williams took control from the start with 10 strikeouts and one earned run as the Hustlers steamrolled to a 13-1 victory. The victory earned the Hustlers the top seed. The championship final placed the Hustlers again against the Concord Raiders with the title at stake. After falling behind 2-0 early, the Old Bridge girls tightened up their defense with some outstanding defensive prowl led by Dominique Andre. Sydney Scheiner had three hits to anchor the 12-3 victory. Paige Weo pitched a complete game for her second victory of the tournament. By outscoring their opponents 48-8, the Old Bridge team represented New Jersey proudly and took home the Tournament of Champions trophy. Dom Andre was named tourney MVP. The Hustlers improved to 36-9-1 and close out summer play in Roselle Park Aug. 3-6.
