Money enough for ball field; no funds for busing

My son attends 10th grade at Sayreville War Memorial High School (SWMHS). The borough has voted to discontinue courtesy busing for many students. We live on Main Street and Pulaski Avenue, too far for any youngster to walk to school.

Are we going back to the 1940s and the stories our grandparents told us about walking miles in the rain and snow, up and down hills to go to school? Not only is it preposterous to expect children to walk such a long distance to get to school, but if they get there late, they get detention. Washington Road is so congested in the morning that it sometimes takes 20 minutes to get from Deerfield Road to SWMHS.

Who decided to spend all that money to redo the football field and yet take away the buses to get children to school? What is wrong with this picture?
