Elsie M. Horvath Scibek
Mrs. Scibek, 82, of Glen Burnie, Md., formerly of Sayreville, died Nov. 5, 2006, at her daughter's home in Glen Burnie. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a custodian with the Sayreville Board of Education, where she worked for 10 years. Her husband, Walter Scibek, died in 1974, and her companion of 20 years, Joseph Woscyna, died in 2004. Surviving are two sons, Thomas Scibek of the Parlin section of Sayreville and Robert Scibek of Fanwood; a daughter, Sharon Scibek of Glen Burnie; two daughters-in-law, Tammy Kassner and Denise Hartsell; and four grandchildren. A Mass is planned for 11 a.m. on Nov. 9 at St. Bernadette's Church, Parlin section of Old Bridge. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Sayreville.
John "Jack" Koons
Mr. Koons, 71, of Sayreville, died Oct. 30, 2006, in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to his retirement in 1991, he was employed as a laboratory supervisor at Shell Oil Co., Sewaren section of Woodbridge, where he worked for 31 years. Surviving are his wife, Bernadine Drozdowski Malkiewicz Koons; a son, John M. Koons of Goleta, Calif.; two daughters, Darlene Koons of the Parlin section of Sayreville and Michelle Uveges of Sayreville; a stepson, James Malkiewicz of the Forked River section of Dover; a stepdaughter, Patricia Tripod of South River; a brother, Edward Koons of Hanover Township, Pa.; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass was offered at St. Stanislaus Church, Sayreville. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Santa Smidili
Mrs. Smidili, 88, of Old Bridge, died Nov. 3, 2006, in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Prior to her retirement in 1989, she was a sales associate with Stewart's, East Brunswick, where she worked for 10 years. Surviving are her husband, John J. Smidili; a son, John A. Smidili of Old Bridge; six sisters, Connie Falvo of Long Island City, N.Y., Jennie Palozzola, Rose Inglima and Mary DeCarlo, all of New York City, and Anna Iraggi and Antoinette Mauro, both of Old Bridge; and a granddaughter. A Mass was offered at St. Ambrose Church, Old Bridge. Entombment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ambrose Church, 96 Throckmorton Lane, Old Bridge, NJ 08857.
Ruth Hannagan Christensen
Mrs. Christensen, 82, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died Oct. 30, 2006, in Madison Center, Matawan. Her husband, Ronald, died in 1990. Surviving are two sons, Douglas and Glen, both of South Amboy; and four grandchildren. Services were held at Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, Parlin. Cremation was private. Memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, Sayreville, or to the Sayreville First Aid Squad.
Augustine Frank Collins
Mr. Collins, 77, of Sayreville, died Nov. 2, 2006, in Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Surviving are his wife, Bridget "Phil" McGovern Collins; a son, Michael of Sayreville; five daughters, Paula Collins of Manalapan, Lynda Scales and Maura Samuel, both of Sayreville, Marina McPadden of Englishtown, and Sandra Melicharek of Glen Rock; a brother, Michael "Jack" Collins of the Bronx, N.Y.; a sister, Nancy Coen of England; and 10 grandchildren. A Mass was offered at Our Lady of Victories Church, Sayreville. Interment was in New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin section of Sayreville.
John Patrick Wyer
Mrs. Wyer, 39, of Old Bridge, died Nov. 1, 2006, at home. He was predeceased by his father, Vincent Francis Wyer. Surviving are his mother, Anne Wyer; two brothers, Kevin and Michael; four sisters, Jean Marie Robinson, Patricia Wyer, Eileen Wyer and Anne Therese Wyer; and 13 nieces and nephews. Services were held at St. Ambrose Church, Old Bridge. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Ambrose Church Boiler Fund.
Albertina Gaffney
Mrs. Gaffney, 91, of the Whiting section of Manchester, died Oct. 27, 2006, in Twin Bridges at Whiting. She was predeceased by her husband, George T. Gaffney, and by a grandson, William G. Eastmond. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Victoria and Sherif Serafi of Old Bridge; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services were held at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Interment was in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
Sophie Michalowski Gruda
Mrs. Gruda, 87, of Sayreville, died Nov. 6, 2006, in the Elms of Cranbury. Her husband, Benjamin, died in 1982, and a daughter, Dolores Gruda, died in 1992. Surviving are two sons, Benjamin Gruda of Potsdam, N.Y., and Raymond Gruda of Jaffrey, N.H.; a brother, Stanley Michalowski of Jamesburg; a sister, Florence Petruska of Monroe; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass is planned for 9 a.m. on Nov. 9 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Sayreville. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
