County sets additional flu, pneumonia clinics

The Middlesex County Public Health Department will offer several additional flu and pneumococcal immunization clinics for the 2006-07 influenza season.

Flu-shot clinics are open to all Middlesex County residents age 18 and over. There is no charge for the flu shot, but Medicare will be billed where appropriate.

Pneumococcal immunizations are available by appointment only to county residents who are age 65 and older and have not previously received the vaccine. Medicare will be billed where appropriate. Proof of age is required.

Alborada will appear in 'Tablao Flamenco'

The Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre will present its "Tablao Flamenco" nightclub-style performance at 4:30 and 5:45 p.m. on Nov. 26 at Spain Inn, 1707 W. 7th St., Piscataway.

Principal Alborada artists, including guitarist Carlos Revollar and dancers Gisele Revollar, Lisa Botalico and Eva Lucena, will offer an evening of flamenco dances.

Rosary society sponsors fresh pierogi, blintz sale

St. Stanislaus Kostka Rosary Altar Society, Sayreville, is holding a fresh pierogi and blintz sale for the holidays.

Many different varieties of pierogi, including cheese, cheese and potato, sauerkraut, potato and sweet cabbage and more, are available. Apple, apricot, blueberry, cherry and strawberry blintzes are offered.

Tricky Tray Auction

The New Jersey Museum of Agriculture (NJMA) will hold its third annual Tricky Tray Auction at 3 p.m. on Nov. 18 at 103 College Farm Road, North Brunswick, adjacent to the Cook College Campus of Rutgers University, off Route 1 south.

Prizes will include a Tiffany necklace, theater tickets, restaurant certificates and gift baskets. Other highlights will be a raffle and a 50/50.

O.B. Library seeks books

for disadvantaged youth

The Old Bridge Public Library, Route 516 and Cottrell Road, is collecting donations of new hardcover and paperback books for distribution to disadvantaged children throughout Middlesex County during the holiday season.

The program, called Books to Keep, is a project of the Libraries of Middlesex, a consortium of public libraries, and the Middlesex County College Library, Edison.

New hardcover and paperback books suitable for children from preschool through adolescence may be brought to the Old Bridge Library through Dec. 15.

Funds are needed to purchase additional books for distribution. Contributions should be made payable to Libraries of Middlesex, and mailed to Leah Wagner, Monroe Township Public Library, 4 Municipal Plaza, Monroe Township, NJ 08831. Monetary donations also may be brought to the library.

HSA offers tickets for

private shopping event

St. Ambrose HSA, Old Bridge, will partner with the Menlo Park Mall, Edison, for a private shopping event planned for 6:30-10 p.m. on Nov. 19 at the mall.

Proceeds will benefit the Simon Youth Foundation and St. Ambrose HSA.

The mall will offer holiday entertainment for adults and children. Most mall stores, restaurants and kiosks will be open. Special sales, activities and a silent auction will be featured.

Ticket holders only will be admitted. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children. Tickets are available through the school, at the St. Ambrose Church rectory and after Sunday Masses at the church. Cheesequake PTA

to sponsor clothes drive

The Cheesequake School PTA will hold a clothing-drive fundraiser from 10 a.m. on Nov. 18 in the school parking lot, Route 34, Old Bridge.

Slightly used shoes, stuffed animals, clothing, linens, handbags and belts are sought. Donated items should be placed in a plastic bag. Contributors, who will get a receipt for the bags, should keep an itemized list of the donations.

The Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the borough of Sayreville will sponsor "Shred It," a mobile paper-shredding event set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 18 at the Sayreville Senior Center, 43 Main St. County residents are invited to recycle their old documents and confidential files safely and securely at the free service.

Interested individuals may bring old files, receipts, bills, financial statements and any documents they have not recycled due to confidentiality concerns. There is no need to remove paper clips, staples or paperboard binder covers. Books, magazines and newspapers will not be accepted for shredding.

Christmas show, dinner, dancing will aid church

St. Bernadette's Church will present "Bobby Byrne's Christmas Spectacular: A Joyful Noise," featuring Byrne and his entire orchestra, from 3-7 p.m. on Dec. 3 at the church's Lourdes Center, 20 Villanova Road, Parlin section of Old Bridge. Dinner will be served at 2 p.m.

'Urinetown' to kick off college theater season

"Urinetown, the Musical," the first mainstage play of the season in the Center for Performing Arts at Middlesex County College, will be performed at 8 p.m. on Nov. 17 and 18 and 2 p.m. on Nov. 19 at the college, 2600 Woodbridge Ave., at the intersection of Mill Road, Edison.

Awarded a Tony for best original score and best book and the Outer Critics Circle Award for best musical, "Urinetown" is described as an "absurdist melodrama about a city in the midst of a drought so devastating that a malevolent corporation has been able to take control of all the toilet facilities."

Donations of gently used, clean coats may be dropped off at the school from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Dec. 15. Contributions will be given to New Jersey families in need.

The goal of Jersey Cares is to collect 30,000 coats for residents, including children and senior citizens, who would otherwise face the winter without warm coats.

The Conklin Coffee Cafe at Conklin United Methodist Church, 82 Main St., South River, will celebrate the life of U.S. Marine Lance Corp. Chris Cosgrove, who was killed in Iraq on Oct. 1, when the band Reunited returns to the cafe from 7-10 p.m. on Nov. 18.
