Democrats didn't buy election; candidate lost on his own

One month before the elections for the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Andrew Tidd has filed scurrilous lawsuits against county Democrats.

Every year, the hearings on these trumped-up charges are put off until after the elections. Every year, Andrew Tidd whines that the Democrats are playing politics, even though it was Andrew Tidd who started the ball rolling. Every year after Andrew Tidd loses, he says that the Democrats are buying the elections ("Incumbents Retain Seats on Freeholders Board," Suburban, Nov. 9).

When I voted I looked in my wallet and there was no extra money in it. I also checked my bank accounts, and there wasn't any deposit made by the county Democrats there either. I am sure that it was the same for every single voter in Middlesex County as well. No payments made to a single voter. Does money "buy" the elections? Not a chance.

I know Mr. Tidd is complaining that the Republicans can't afford to get their "message" out as much as they'd like to, but not a single vote in Middlesex County was "bought."

It is time for Mr. Tidd to face reality. The only reason he loses every year is that the people of Middlesex County don't vote for him - period. We get his so-called "message" every year, and the plain fact of the matter is that he is not someone the voters of the county want as freeholder - period.

Do not demean the intelligence of the people of the county every time you lose an election. We may not always know who we really want for these jobs but we clearly know who we don't want. Get over yourself, Mr. Tidd. We have.
