Proud to be from Sayreville, grateful to community It is often said, "You can't go home again," but on Monday, Nov. 6, at the Starland Ballroom, Sayreville, I did finally feel what it is like to go home again. I was overwhelmed by the support the people showed me in my battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease and by the sheer number (more than 400) of those who came that night. I am so proud to be from Sayreville. My former film department teacher, Susan Pelligrini, is truly a gift to the community. Programs like this one are vital because there are so many talented students, and it is so important for them to be encouraged to pursue a future in which they can put their talents to the best possible use and to have a productive career that also satisfies their creative drive. Mrs. Pelligrini "gets it." She encouraged me and inspired me, as both a teacher and a friend. That inspiration was a gift she gave me, and it is something I will always carry with me. I am proud of Sayreville War Memorial High School for continuing programs like this. I think it results in more young people staying in school because their interest is kept alive. I saw so many great performances that night, and I am excited for Sayreville. I know great things are in store for these students and the others who will benefit from the programs in the arts in the years to come. I have very happy memories of participating in the film classes and the theater program, and I wish the same for the students there now and in the future. Thank you, Sayreville. There is no feeling like going home again. I am continually grateful, and I am a better man because of you.
