Dec. 14 & 15

• Adopt-A-Family, sponsored by the South River Elementary School PTA, to make the holiday season more enjoyable for disadvantaged children in South River. Drop-off box also located at the South River Public Library, Appleby Avenue. Monetary donations accepted throughout the year.

Dec. 14-18

• Online Auction, sponsored by the Solomon Schechter Day School of Raritan Valley, East Brunswick, at www.ssdsrv.cmarket.com. Site offers more than 150 holiday gift items. Categories include sports tickets, shows, restaurants, salons, jewelry, getaways, kids stuff, summer camps, home goods, collectibles, health/beauty, professional services. New items added weekly. Dec. 15

• Comedy Shoppe Comedy Cafe Show, to benefit the Sayreville Main Street Players, 7:30 p.m., at the Main Street Theater, 3018 Bordentown Ave., Parlin section of Sayreville. Tickets cost $10 each. Light fare, coffee, soft drinks for sale. Call (732) 553-1153 or log on to smstc.org.

Dec. 16-Jan. 13

• Book Sale, sponsored by the Spotswood Public Library, during regular hours, at the library, 548 Main St. Hardcover books, paperbacks, children’s books, VHS videos, audiocassettes available. Paperbacks sell for 50 cents each or three for $1, hardcovers for 75 cents and up, videos for $1. “All-You-Can-Carry-for-$5” sale set for the last two days of the event. All sales final. Dec. 17

• Breakfast With Santa, sponsored by East Brunswick Elks Lodge No. 2370, 9:30-11 a.m., at the lodge, Oakmont Avenue. Tickets cost $6 per person; children age 10 and under admitted free of charge. (732) 257-2950.

Dec. 20

• Hanukkah Lights and Music Concert, featuring the Clearbrook Mandolin Ensemble, to benefit the Chabad House of Monroe Community Center Building Fund, 7 p.m., at Monroe Township High School, Perrineville Road. Menorah-lighting ceremony, hot latkes, doughnuts. Children will make olive oil and create a Hanukkah craft prior to concert. Tickets: $10; $18, sponsors; free to children under age 12.
