Dentist accused of practicing without license since 1989
SAYREVILLE –– A borough man was arrested last week on allegations he was practicing dentistry without a license.
James L. Weisfeld, 71, was charged Dec. 21, according to David Wald, communications director for the New Jersey Consumer Affairs Division.
“He was practicing and he never renewed his license in 1989,” Wald said. “That automatically was grounds for a suspension.”
The Consumer Affairs Division’s Board of Dentistry conducted a field check after receiving an anonymous tip that claimed that Weisfeld was practicing dentistry illegally, a third-degree crime, at his Main Street office. Weisfeld was suspended in October for not renewing his license since 1989.
“We conducted an investigation Oct. 2 and we served suspensions Oct. 16,” Wald said. “Further investigation found that he continued to practice.”
Sayreville police arrested Weisfeld after Consumer Affairs reported that he was continuing to practice without a license, Wald said. Weisfeld was then released on his own recognizance.
“If there is any doubt or you believe your dentist is not licensed properly, you can always check with the Board of Dentistry, Consumer Affairs on the standing of any dentist.”
