Sayreville library talk to focus on hypnosis

The Sayreville Public Library, 1050 Washington Road, will offer a discussion titled "Hypnosis: A New You in the New Year" at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 11.

Guest presenter will be Matawan clinical hypnotist Rosemary Conte. The program will explore how positive change might be accomplished by using mind power. There will be a discussion on the possible uses of hypnosis, including smoke cessation, weight release, fertility, healing panic and anxiety, improving skills and more. The program is free of charge. Talent, recipe, craft events set at church

Blood drive slated for Jan. 13 at O.B. church

St. Thomas the Apostle Church, in cooperation with Knights of Columbus Council No. 4815, will hold a winter blood drive from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan. 13 in the parish auditorium, Route 18 south, Old Bridge. Donors must be between the ages of 17 and 75, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in reasonably good health.

Young actors sought for 'High School Musical'

Auditions for Triple H Productions' upcoming performances of "Disney's High School Musical" will be held beginning at 7 p.m. on Jan. 23 for students in kindergarten-fifth grades, Jan. 26 for those in sixth-12th grades, in the basement at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 221 MacArthur Ave., Sayreville. Participants should use the church's back entrance. Sign-ins will take place at 6:15 p.m. High-school students are especially encouraged to audition. All minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian because paperwork must be signed and submitted at the time of the audition. Teen board meeting, events on tap at library

Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to upcoming "Get Active, Get Involved!" events at the Old Bridge Library Main Branch, Route 516 and Cottrell Road.

The library's Teen Poetry and Writing Club will hold a meeting at 6:15 p.m. on Jan. 8. Writers and aspiring writers are invited to bring their own writings or to begin new works at the event.

A no-bake cheesecake recipe will be featured at a "Teen Baking" program planned for 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 11. Participants should bring measuring utensils, a mixing bowl and a large spoon. The library will provide all ingredients and instructions. Space is limited. Advance registration is required.

There will be a "Surprise Movie" screening at 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 21. Interested individuals may discover the movie's title by calling the library information desk at (732) 721-5600, ext. 5033.

The next meeting of the Old Bridge Public Library Teen Advisory Board is set for 1 p.m. on Jan. 25. Participants will share their ideas about the kind of programs and materials they would like to see at the library.

Winter Oldies Dance on tap for Jan. 19 in O.B.

A Winter Rock 'n' Roll Oldies Dance will be held 8-11 p.m. on Jan. 19 at Knights of Columbus No. 4815 Hall, 61 Pine St., Old Bridge.

The event will feature music by a DJ and dancing to the sounds of the '50s and '60s.

Hebrew speakers club will meet on Jan. 14

The next meeting of the Chug Ivrit club for intermediate and advanced Hebrew speakers will take place at 11 a.m. on Jan. 14 at a private home in the Highland Park area.

Chug Ivrit is sponsored by the Raritan Valley Chapter of Hadassah. Meetings are free of charge and open to the public. Men and women are invited.

Old Bridge Library offers Senior Fridays

More Senior Fridays events planned at library

The Old Bridge Public Library will continue its new Senior Fridays program, featuring free events for older adults, at 1:30 p.m. every week at the Library Main Branch, Route 516 and Cottrell Road.

The January schedule is as follows:

+ Jan. 5 - screening of a 1950s movie musical starring Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Grace Kelly;

+ Jan. 12 - "Energy Efficiency," a lecture and discussion presented by a representative of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities;

+ Jan. 19 - "Let's Move!" line dancing with Janet of Janet's Dance Studio, Old Bridge;

+ Jan. 26 - "Music of the 1940s," a lecture, discussion and video, presented by Allan M. Kleiman.

Registration is not required. Light refreshments will be served.

Teens invited to 'Math Madness' tutoring

Volunteer math tutors for teens in middle school and high school are available from 10 a.m. to noon every Saturday at the Old Bridge Public Library Main Branch, Route 516 and Cottrell Road. The volunteers are part of the library's "Saturday Morning Math Madness" program.

The tutors provide SAT prep, homework help and study assistance.

Hospital to sponsor HIV group meetings

The Raritan Bay Medical Center Immunology and Infectious Diseases Department will sponsor HIV support group meetings on Jan. 8, 15, 22 and 29 at the hospital's Perth Amboy division, 530 New Brunswick Ave.

Health Department adds 2007 flu clinics

The Middlesex County Public Health Department will offer two additional flu-immunization clinics for the 2007 influenza season.

Flu-shot clinics are open to all Middlesex County residents age 18 and over. There is no charge for the shot, but Medicare will be billed where appropriate.

The influenza immunization clinic schedule is as follows:

Jan. 12, 9:30-11:30 a.m. - Old Bridge Senior Center, Municipal Complex, Route 516;

Jan. 12, 1:30-3:30 p.m. - North Brunswick Senior Center, 15 Linwood Place;
