Sports Shorts The U10 Old Bridge Thunder recently captured first and second place at a December 3-v-3 tournament at the Soccer Centers of New Jersey indoor facility in Somerset. The Thunder played extremely well, having to face their teammates in the final match. Capturing first was Samantha Potts, Nicole Velez, Kristina Hourican, Gina Colamonico and Meaghan Kenny. Capturing second was Alexis Suarez, Gianna Taranto, Samantha Hourican, Alex D'Acunto and Vanessa Mantione. The Old Bridge Thunder is representing New Jersey in the National 3-v-3 championships on Jan. 13 and 14 in Orlando, Fla. The Thunder is looking for one to two girls for this season, and to tryout for next season when the team plays full-sided soccer. The team trains two to three times per week, and plays in at least three tournaments per season. The team will play in MOSA Premier, where they have a first- and second-place finish. All coaches are state-licensed (two played college soccer) and the trainer has played professionally in Europe. If interested, contact Chuck Mantione at (732) 241-2441.
The Old Bridge youth hockey instructional program is accepting registrations for 5- through 9-year-olds for its 11-week fall program, which begins Jan. 7 at the Old Bridge Sports Arena and is sponsored by the township Department of Parks, Recreation & Social Services. Youngsters will be instructed on the fundamentals of hockey, including stickhandling, passing and shooting. Participants are required to wear full equipment. The cost is $251 for Old Bridge residents and $301 for nonresidents.
