Board deserves commendation

Kudos to the Sayreville Planning Board with regard to the Fulton's Landing issue.

Fulton's Landing is a development planned on ground with a water table of 6 inches-5 feet. The homes should include boat docks befitting the given name (an exaggeration, of course).

After a tough legal battle, the courts are allowing the developer, Fulton's Landing Inc., to build homes in a hole in the ground. But the board has held Fulton's Landing in check until the builder proves it can safely engineer the development.

The Sayreville Planning Board has a large caseload, and its members spend long hours, mostly voluntary, to be sure development is in the best interests of the public. At the previous board meeting, I was happy to see other cases involving clean industry coming into the town, helping to offset increased school taxes due to the booming single-family homes that cannot be stopped.

There are those who may criticize, but I don't see anyone else clamoring for jobs on the Planning Board.
