Donations for needy brightened holiday season

On behalf of Marian Rettinger, president of the General Federation of Woman's Clubs (GFWC) Woman's Club of East Brunswick, I would like to thank all club members, residents, friends and local organizations who participated in the club's requests for holiday donations of children's wrapped gifts that helped Santa Claus bring smiles to our 10 needy families.

Thanks go out to our Cookie/Candy Committee and all club members for their successful efforts in baking, packing and distributing 343 wrapped holiday tins filled with cookies and candies, 334 books, 59 decks of cards and 27 games and puzzles at the New Jersey Veterans Home in Menlo Park and several group homes around East Brunswick.

I want to thank the Needy Family Committee for delivering food, gift cards and presents to the less fortunate during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season, and the Wreath-Raffle Committee and all club members for collecting more than $700 for food distribution for needy families.

The Woman's Club of East Brunswick is a member of the New Jersey State Federation of Woman's Clubs (NJSFWC) of GFWC, which was founded in 1894 and has been headquartered on the campus of Douglass College of Rutgers University, New Brunswick, since 1966. The state federation is a member of the GFWC, the oldest and largest nonpartisan, nondenominational women's volunteer organization in the world. Opportunities are provided to women in the areas of education, leadership, training and community services through participation in local clubs, enabling members to make a difference in the lives of others, one project at a time.

For more information on the club and club projects, interested individuals may call Sue at (732) 238-6361. To learn about the NJSFWC, log on to www.njsfwc.org or call (732) 249-5474 or (732) 249-5485.
