Robert E. McGuffey

Mr. McGuffey, 83, of Sayreville, died Jan. 19, 2007, in Greenville Hospital, Jersey City. His wife, Ethel Blakeslee McGuffey, died in 1992. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Charles Kerzan of Sayreville, Beth and Jack Bogush of Jersey City and Karen and Jeffrey Koob of Williamsburg, Va.; and five grandchildren. Services were held at Christ Episcopal Church, South Amboy. Cremation was private. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Patricia A. Penicaro Horn

Mrs. Horn, 57, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Old Bridge, died Jan. 20, 2007, in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy division. Surviving are her husband, David; two sons, David of Sylvania, Ga., and Michael of Cliffwood Beach; a daughter, Tricia Ahlers of Moorestown; a brother, Anthony Penicaro of Clark; two sisters, Rosemarie Nicolini of Wayne and Mildred Calandriello of Hasbrouck Heights; and four grandchildren. Private services were under the direction of Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy.

Jeannine Hoffman Ginman

Mrs. Ginman, 77, of Leesburg, Va., formerly of Sayreville and the Toms River section of Dover, died Jan. 22, 2007, at home. Her husband, Raymond T. Ginman Sr., died in 1988. Surviving are a son, Raymond T. Ginman Jr., and his wife, Cynthia, of Leesburg; a sister, Ivalou Gundrum, and her husband, George, of Lavallette; and three grandchildren. Services are planned for 10 a.m. on Jan. 25 at Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy. Interment will follow in Van Liew Cemetery, North Brunswick.

Kathleen Khalil

Mrs. Khalil, 52, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died Dec. 25, 2006, at home following a lengthy illness. born in New Brunswick, she resided in Morgan prior to moving to Parlin 10 years ago. She was a window clerk at the U.S. Postal Service, Piscataway, for 26 years, retiring in 2001. She was a member of St. Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church, Parlin. She was predeceased by her father, Gerald Hayden in 2000; and a brother, Robert O'Toole in 1991. She is survived by her husband, Mario; a daughter, Christine at home; her mother, Eleanor Hayden of Morgan; a brother, William O'Toole of Hazlet; a sister, Janet Nealon of Manahawkin; two nieces; and two nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Bernadette's Church. Interment was at Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy. Arrangements were by The Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy. Memorial donations may be made to Granulosa Cell Tumor of the Ovary Foundation, P.O. Box 722440, San Diego, CA 92172-2440.

Douglas E. Bird

Mr. Bird, 51, of the Parlin section of Old Bridge, died Jan. 14, 2007, at home. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Muriel Bird. Surviving are his wife, Janine Barrow Bird; three children, Scott, Katelyn and Shawn, all at home; a brother, John Bird of Parlin; three sisters, Barbara Connolly of Loveland, Colo., Terri Bird of Hamilton and Karen Barrow of Brick; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass was offered at St. Bernadette's Church, Parlin. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.

John "Jack" Fanning

Mr. Fanning, 85, of Sayreville, died Jan. 17, 2007, at home. Prior to his retirement in 1976, he was a furniture salesman with Bambergers, Menlo Park. He was predeceased by his wife, Cecilia "Ceal" McCarthy Fanning. Surviving are many nieces and nephews. A Mass was offered at Our Lady of Victories Church, Sayreville. Interment was in New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin section of Sayreville.

Margaret Filippazzo

Mrs. Filippazzo, of Old Bridge, died Jan. 11, 2007. Surviving are two sons, Robert, and his wife, Frances, of Hudson, Fla., and Richard, and his wife, Mary, of Old Bridge; five grandchildren, Christopher, Dawn, Edward, Amy and Tara; and five great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Entombment was in Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum, South Brunswick.

John Murphy

Mr. Murphy, 88, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Old Bridge, died Jan. 20, 2007, in Regency Park Nursing Center, Hazlet. His first wife, Irene Murphy, died in 1974. Surviving are his wife, Ella Dunn Murphy; two sons, John Murphy Jr., and his wife, Millie, of Cliffwood Beach, and Kevin Murphy, and his wife, Christina, of the Colonia section of Woodbridge; an adopted daughter, Georgette White of Colonia; a brother, James Murphy of Ormond Beach, Fla.; a sister, Betty Turner of Eatontown; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass is planned for 9 a.m. on Jan. 25 at St. Lawrence Church, Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Keyport.

Wilbur "Bill" Howarth

Mr. Howarth, 86, of Sayreville, died Jan. 9, 2007, in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He served as a reserve police officer for five years. His wife, Peggy, died in 2003. Surviving are his children, Marge and John Przygoda, Patricia and Brian Davis and Diane and Jerry Forrest; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass was offered at Our Lady of Victories Church, Sayreville. Interment was in New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin section of Sayreville.

Ruth E. Benson Hector

Mrs. Hector, 70, of Keyport, died Jan. 17, 2007, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Newark, she resided there and the Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge, prior to relocating to Keyport four years ago. She was a custodial worker at Matawan School District, for 12 years, retiring in 2002. She enjoyed recreation with friends at her Keyport apartment complex. She was predeceased by her husband Nicholas T. Hector Jr. in 2002. She is survived by two sons, Nicholas T. Hector III of Kearny, and Fredrick Hector of California; a daughter, Michelle Egoavil of Kearny; two brothers, John Benson of Edison, and William Benson of Virginia; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Interment was at Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Julia Bilis Turnbull

Mrs. Turnbull, 85, of Sayreville, died Jan. 13, 2007, in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Her husband, Andrew, died in 1990. Surviving are a daughter, Julieann Whitney, and her husband, David, of Sayreville; a brother, Joseph Bilis of Hoboken; a sister-in-law, Agnes Turnbull of Sayreville; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass is planned for 9 a.m. on Jan. 18 at St. Stanislaus Church, Sayreville. Interment will follow in Rosedale Cemetery, Linden.

BethAnn Prudente

Mrs. Prudente, 58, of Old Bridge, died Jan. 18, 2007, in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. She was a fifth-grade teacher at Sacred Heart School, South Amboy, for the past five years. Prior to that, she taught for nine years at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Old Bridge. Surviving are her husband, Pasquale; two daughters, Maria Chornobroff of Jackson and Melissa Pineiro of Old Bridge; a sister, Kathi Farrell of Monroe; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. Interment was in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd or to Sacred Heart School.

Dorothy LaCharite Massie

Mrs. Massie, 75, of Sayreville, died Jan. 19, 2007, at home. Prior to her retirement in 1997, she was the owner of Masemco Cleaning Services, Sayreville, for 15 years. She was predeceased by a son, Jerome Weston. Surviving are five children, Linda Becker, Steven Massie, Kenneth Massie, Theresa Semple and Barbara Semple; 19 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a friend, Dorothea Coyle. A Mass was offered at St. Bernadette's Church, Parlin section of Old Bridge. Cremation was private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sayreville Emergency Squad, P.O. Nancy L. Niewinski-Heitzenroeder

Mrs. Niewinski-Heitzenroeder, 53, of Sayreville, died Jan. 15, 2007, in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. She was employed for 31 years as a special-education teacher with the Sayreville Board of Education. A member of the Sayreville Association for Brain Injured Children, she volunteered for the panel's summer camp at the former Hercules Inc. site and for its winter camp at Wilson School. Surviving are her husband, George Heitzenroeder; her parents, John and Dorothy Niewinski of Sayreville; two sisters, Diane Chervoney of Teaneck and Judy Simmons of Tallahassee, Fla.; and a stepson, Nathan Heitzenroeder of South River. A Mass was offered at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Sayreville. Interment was in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sayreville Association for Brain Injured Children, 251 Jernee Mill Road, Sayreville, NJ 08872.
