Police investigate fatalaccident on Route 9

OLD BRIDGE - A township woman was killed after her car was rear-ended on Route 9 on Jan. 25.

Maureen Donnelly, 44, was driving north on Route 9 with her 69-year-old mother, Josephine Quale, when their minivan was struck from behind by a Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Manalapan resident Christopher Thorne, 39.

Donnelly was pronounced dead at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Old Bridge. Quale was in critical condition when she arrived at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, but was later upgraded to stable condition.

The accident took place around 9 a.m. just south of Fairway Lane, near a Bank of America branch, according to Old Bridge Police Lt. Robert Moser. Donnelly's vehicle struck a sign at the bank after being hit by the other vehicle.

Donnelly is survived by her husband of 25 years, Bryan, a son, Bryan Jr., a daughter, Jennifer, as well as her parents, Arthur and Josephine Quale, a brother, Arthur Quale, a sister, Debbie Beaton, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws, all of Old Bridge, according to her obituary.

No charges have been issued in the accident, which is under investigation, Moser said. Anyone with information on the accident is urged to call Detective Richard Tulko at (732) 721-5600, ext. 3181.
