Concert will benefit suicide prevention

A Feast of Fools celebration concert featuring three bands showcasing music of the 1960s and '70s will be held at 7 p.m. on March 31 at the South River Knights of Columbus Hall, 88 Jackson St. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Proceeds from the concert, named to mark April Fools Day (April 1, the day after the concert), will go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Bands scheduled to perform include The Wannabes, Legion Brothers and the headliner, Fillmore Daze. The three bands will cover the golden era of British and American pop and rock music, 1965-1971.

Concert organizer and local musician Mike Soga worked with two young people in the past two years who committed suicide. The deaths of his young co-workers prompted Soga to consider the good a concert might be able to achieve.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research and education, also reaches out to people with mood disorders and those affected by suicide.

Concert tickets cost $10 and will be available at the door. Admission includes one free drink.
