Graffiti incidents, assault on cop reported last week SAYREVILLE - Several acts of graffiti were reported in various areas of town last week, including one in which police found the suspect in the act of marking public property. Police were dispatched to Andrewjeski Bridge on the southbound side of routes 9 and 35 at 11:27 p.m. March 15 for a report of spray-painting in the area. The officers arrived to find a suspect spraying the bridge. The suspect threw a spray-paint can at one of the police officers, hitting him in the face, and then fled, leading police on a foot pursuit. Police chased the suspect through several backyards in the area of lower Oak Street, but lost him at Laurel Street. He was not apprehended. The officer who was struck was not injured. Police received several other reports of vandalism in town, including graffiti in white marker on the basketball court behind borough hall, Main Street. The markings were made sometime between 7 p.m. March 13 and 2:58 p.m. March 14. Graffiti was also reported at a private residence on Barbara Place at 9:27 a.m. March 15. Police found several drawings and other graffiti along several sides of the fence around the property. Criminal mischief to a motor vehicle was reported in front of a residence on Carter Place at 11:30 a.m. Monday. The resident's silver 2006 Saturn Ion was scratched over the entire surface of the vehicle and anti-Semitic writings were written on the rear driver's side of the vehicle sometime between 3 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. Monday. - Michael Acker
