American-Indian panel to sponsor open house

Intertribal Indians of New Jersey will hold an open house at 2 p.m. on April 14 in the log cabin located opposite the deer enclosure at Thompson Park, Monroe.

The event will feature American-Indian music, dancing, a crafts display and craft demonstrations. Indigenous Mohawk speakers Monica Paul and Helen Rende will provide Mohawk-language instruction. Marvin Davis, president of Intertribal Indians of New Jersey, will discuss "Celestial Bear," a historical work about the traditional Lenape culture. An overview of future Intertribal programs will be discussed.

All are welcome to attend.

The event is funded in part by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders, the Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission and the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State.

Intertribal Indians of New Jersey is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the general public about American-Indian culture and providing support to American Indians living in New Jersey. The group has done work in schools and various community organizations.

For more information on the open house or to arrange for a speaker or programming, call Brenda Davis at (732) 390-1642 or e-mail maryanneross123@yahoo.com.
