Disney musical will hit the stage in Sayreville

SCOTT PILLING staff Nick Anastasia (r), of Howell, and Paul Pilcz, of Marlboro, rehearse a scene from Disney's "High School Musical" Tuesday at the Theatre at Garden Friends, Parlin.
SAYREVILLE - The smash Disney TV movie that took everyone by surprise when it surged to the top of the ratings in 2006 will open Friday at the Main Street Theatre Company.

Director Chris Guell, choreographer Liat Pearlman and musical director Justin Ryan have pulled out all the stops on this show, promising to bring laughter, romance, intrigue, brilliant dance sequences and a program of show-stopping musical numbers, according to Vic Morosco, president of the Sayreville theater troupe.

"The cast includes the best teen talent from Sayreville and the surrounding areas - and coming from as far away as Somerset, Howell and Marlboro," Morosco said.

He described the show as "a feel-good musical in the best tradition of 'Grease.' "

"It will remind anyone who ever took part in a school musical of the absolute thrill it was. This is a musical about dreams, acceptance, teamwork and, most importantly, being yourself," Morosco said.

SCOTT PILLING staff Daniella Baradesio, of Sayreville, and Andrew Valez, of Old Bridge, work on a scene.
Some performances are sold out, but tickets remain for April 14 at 2 and 8 p.m.; April 20 and 21 at 8 p.m.; and April 22 at 2 p.m. For ticket information, call (732) 553-1153 or visit Web site at smstc.org. The theater is located at 3018 Bordentown Ave., Parlin.

TGI Fridays will donate 20 percent of the bill to the Main Street Theatre Company for anyone who mentions the company's name on April 15 and 22 from 4 to 9 p.m.
