Old Bridge board needs to be fiscally responsible

With residents voting for school board elections and a new budget earlier this week, we all need to be reminded of the fiasco of last year.

After voting down the budget, members of the Old Bridge Township Council adjusted the school budget for the year.

The Old Bridge Township Council then passed an ordinance to provide $4 million as a loan for upgrades at various school buildings.

That loan must be repaid within five years.

Since the Board of Education does not manufacture any product to sell for profit, nor does it have a stream of guaranteed revenue, such as toll collection, the only way to acquire funds to pay off this debt is to increase the taxpayer-financed school budget.

Without fiscal responsibility from the Board of Education, the taxpayers of Old Bridge will once again be burdened to pay off this debt.
