The East Brunswick Lions Club and the East Brunswick Regional Chamber of Commerce invite the public to participate in their 11th annual golf outing on May 30 at Bunker Hill Golf Club, Griggstown section of Franklin. The entry fee is $105 and includes green fees, cart fees, refreshments, lunch, beverages, dinner, awards, prizes, and a complimentary weekday round of golf at Bunker Hill. Alborada to perform 'The Feast of Sarah' Monmouth University will present the Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre in "The Feast of Sarah: A Gypsy Festival" at 8 p.m. on May 5 at the university's Pollak Theatre, 400 Cedar Ave., West Long Branch. The cross-cultural performance will feature the entire Alborada company, the Daughters of Sofia Tribal Dance Company, Kalman Maygar Hungarian Dance Ensemble and the Gorcsi Brothers Band. Alborada principal dancer Ricardo Santiago and resident guest artist Peter Suarez will create a gypsy duel. A re-creation of the oldest religious festival in Saint Maries de la Mer, Camargue, France, to which gypsies made their annual pilgrimage, the production will depict extended families of Spanish, Hungarian and Balkan origin meeting and celebrating with dance and music around a caravan and campfire. There will be gypsy spiritual dances and music and dances from the Balkans. Spanish gypsies will use tambourines and "zills" (Arabic finger instruments) to highlight their Arabic background, and Spanish and Hungarian gypsy cultures will be joined in a fusion dance. Funding for the production is provided in part by the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation and the American Music Center Live Music for Dance of New York. St. Mary's choral society concert set for May 20 The St. Mary Choral Society will present "From the Sublime to the Ridiculous: Serious and Silly Choral and Instrumental Music" May 20 at 4 p.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 256 Augusta St., South Amboy. There will also be a special performance by the church's bell choir. Featured will be pieces by various composers. Refreshments will be provided. Fathers Club to hold card game fundraiser
The Immaculate Conception Fathers Club of Spotswood will sponsor a Texas Hold'em Tournament May 19 in the auditorium at Immaculate Conception School, 23 Manalapan Road, Spotswood. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the tournament runs from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. The event will feature licensed dealers and casino poker tables. Cost is $125 for "buy-ins," with "re-buys" at $50 during the first hour. Satellite games will be held. Payouts will be in the form of gift cards. 'Cohan Show' coming to Marasco theater June 2 The Monroe Township Cultural Arts Commission will present "The George M. Cohan Show," a one-man portrayal of the famous song and dance man, at the Richard P. Marasco Theatre for the Performing Arts, 1629 Perrineville Road, Monroe, at 7 p.m. June 2. Cohan, considered the "father of the American musical comedy," was an entertainer, playwright, composer, lyricist, actor, singer, dancer, director and producer in the early 20th century.
