Boro sees string of car break-ins over weekend BY MICHAEL ACKER Staff Writer
SAYREVILLE - Eleven motor vehicles were hit last weekend during a spree of burglaries in the borough.
The car break-ins took place in the neighborhoods known as White Oaks, Main Street Town Homes and President Park, according Sayreville Police Sgt. Sean O'Donnell.
"Many of the vehicles had been left unlocked, with valuables in view," O'Donnell said in a press release. "All residents are reminded to lock their vehicles and to remove electronic valuables from view."
One of the motor vehicle burglaries took place in front of the car owner's home on Pero Court at 7:20 p.m. Saturday. The victim told police that the rear passenger window of the silver 2004 Hyundai Elantra was opened and a Magellin Road Mate 6000T navigation system was stolen.
Theft from a motor vehicle was reported at a nearby residence in the area of Mochen Court and Kimball Drive West at 2:59 p.m. Saturday. The gray 2005 Honda Civic was ransacked, and the suspect or suspects tried, but failed in stealing the car's radio unit.
Another car break-in was reported on Begonia Court, where a victim's black 2005 Chevy Cobalt was parked in front of a friend's residence between 6:30 p.m. Friday and 1:41 p.m. Saturday. A white video iPod worth $400 was stolen from the vehicle.
Theft from a motor vehicle was reported on Rodio Court at 9:58 a.m. Saturday. A Pioneer radio unit worth $200 was stolen from the victim's tan 1993 Nissan 240.
Another theft was reported on a driveway on Buttonwood Drive at 9:43 a.m. Saturday. The suspect or suspects broke into the victim's blue 1998 Saturn Ion and stole an Apple laptop computer worth $1,000 sometime between 4:30 p.m. and midnight.
Theft from a motor vehicle was reported in the area of Gwizdak Court and Faith Drive at 9:36 a.m. Saturday. The victim's maroon 2004 GMC Envoy contained a JVC "all in one head unit" worth $1,500 that was stolen sometime between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. Saturday. The victim told police that the vehicle was locked and the alarm was activated. A Sirius Satellite Radio and an iPod dock were stolen from the vehicle.
Information regarding the other burglaries was not immediately available.
