Mary F. Karmel
Mrs. Karmel, 76, of Old Bridge, died May 9, 2007, in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Prior to her retirement in 1973, she was employed for 10 years as a lunch aide at Grissom Elementary School, Old Bridge. Her husband, Robert J., died in 2001. Surviving are a son, Robert E. of Old Bridge; two daughters, Nancy J. Pielli of Jackson and Susan M. Galazin of Old Bridge; a brother, Arthur Englert of Holtsville, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. A Mass was offered at St. Ambrose Church, Old Bridge. Interment was in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.
Mary Agnes "Lovey" McCarthy Rosinski
Mrs. Rosinski, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died May 14, 2007, in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy division. She was employed from 1947-1961 with E.I. DuPont Fabric and Finish Division, Parlin. Surviving are her husband, Adam J. Rosinski; a son, Adam J. Rosinski Jr.; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass is planned for 10 a.m. on May 17 at St. Bernadette's Church, Parlin section of Old Bridge. Entombment will follow in St. Mary's Mausoleum, South Amboy.
Cecelia Parker
Mrs. Parker, 85, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died May 2, 2007, at home. Her husband, Harvey Parker, died in 1988. Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Boyle of South Carolina; two granddaughters, Amy Boyle and Kerry Greeff, and her husband, Robert; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Ambrose Church, Old Bridge. Interment was in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey.
Dorothy "Jerri" Caruso Politano
Mrs. Politano, 82, of Keansburg, died May 12, 2007, in Arnold Walter Nursing Home, Holmdel. Surviving are four daughters and three sons-in-law, Tam and Stephen Blasi of the Cliffwood Beach section of Old Bridge, Debra and Knut Holt of Walton, N.Y., Judy Politano of the Belford section of Middletown and Lisa and John Crincoli of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; four sons and three daughters-in-law, James and Karen Politano of Middletown, John Politano of the New Egypt section of Plumsted, and Jerry and Maryann Politano and Michael and Donna Politano, all of Keansburg; a sister, Margaret Boyce of South Carolina; her ex-husband, Jim "Tata" Politano; 26 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Catherine's Church, North Middletown. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Robert E. Powell
Mr. Powell, 79, of East Brunswick, formerly of Staten Island, N.Y., died May 3, 2007, in Saint Peter's University Hospital, New Brunswick. His wife, Anna Marjorie "Marge" Neal Powell, died in 1998. Surviving are three sons, Stephen Powell, and his wife, Debra, of Staten Island, Craig Powell of New York City and R. Scott Powell, and his wife, Teri, of East Brunswick; a daughter, Kimberly Russomano, and her husband, Gerald, of East Brunswick; a brother, Edward Powell of River Edge; and seven grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Interment was in Oceanview Cemetery, Staten Island. Margaret MacAvoy
Mrs. MacAvoy, 85, of Old Bridge, died May 12, 2007, in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Her husband, James J., died in 1980. Surviving are two daughters, Margaret Savastano of Old Bridge and Suzanne Bocchino of South Amboy; a sister, Virginia Daly of Middletown; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Nicholas, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died May 14, 2007, in St. Michael's Medical Center, Newark. Surviving are his wife, Elaine Wasilkowski Nicholas; a son, Michael N., and his wife, Amber, of Edison; a daughter, Nicole Nicholas of Parlin; a brother, George Nicholas of the Toms River section of Dover; and two grandsons. A service was held at St. Demetrios Church, Perth Amboy. Interment was in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick.
Patrick A. Ambrosia
Mr. Ambrosia, 71, of Old Bridge, died May 14, 2007, in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was predeceased by a grandson, Bobby Hughes. Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Abod Ambrosia; two daughters, Louise Hughes, and her husband, Robert, of Sayreville, and Charlotte M. Ambrosia of Old Bridge; two sons, Patrick W. Ambrosia, and his wife, Patrice, of West Somerville, Mass., and Michael P. Ambrosia of South Amboy; a brother, Frank Ambrosia of Freehold; and seven grandchildren. Services are planned for 11:30 a.m. on May 17 at Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, Parlin section of Sayreville. Interment will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin.
John K. "Jack" Meyer
Mr. Meyer, 63, of Old Bridge, died May 13, 2007, in Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center, Edison. He was a project manager for the Middlesex County Utilities Authority, Sayreville, for the past five years. A professional photographer, he also owned Jack Meyer Photography, Old Bridge. Surviving are his wife, Suzanne Skelly Meyer; and two sons, John R. of Wood-Ridge and Michael of New York City. A Mass was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Joan Ann Kraynack Margres
Mrs. Margres, 75, of Old Bridge, died May 9, 2007, in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Her husband, John J. Margres, died in 1988. Surviving are three sons, John Margres, and his wife, Patty, of Danbury, Conn., Mark Margres, and his wife, Robin, of Sayreville and Matthew Margres, and his wife, Valerie, of Saginaw, Mich.; a daughter, Laura Widmer, and her husband, Michael, of Monroe; a sister, Priscilla Ege of Bayonne; and 12 grandchildren. James Hughes
Mr. Hughes, of Monroe, died May 11, 2007, at home. Surviving are his wife, Francese Barrette Hughes; a son, Steve Hughes; and a granddaughter, Sydney Hughes. A Mass was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
Robert L. Grootegoed
Mr. Grootegoed, of the Whiting section of Manchester, formerly of Old Bridge, died May 6, 2007, at home. His wife, Ann, died in 2006. Surviving are four daughters, Belinda Trainor, Diane Markese, Karen Homeny and Susan Grootegoed, with whom he lived; a son, Robert B. Grootegoed; two sons-in-law, Larry Homeny and Anthony Yaskowcak Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Denise Cook; a sister, Marie Vale; his mother-in-law, Anna Sury; a brother-in-law, Richard Sury; a sister-in-law, Frances Musial; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services were private. Arrangements were under the direction of Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown.
Christopher B. Harris
Mr. Harris, 48, of East Brunswick, died May 12, 2007, in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was employed for the past 17 years with Exxon Mobil, Edison. He was predeceased by his father, Bernard Harris. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Ladenheim Harris; a daughter, Jennifer Harris of East Brunswick; a stepson, Kevin Ladenheim, and his wife, Laura, of Baltimore; his mother, Yvonne Riss Harris of Southampton; a brother, Gene Harris of the Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge; and a sister, April Harris of East Brunswick. Mr. Arthur, 78, of Old Bridge, died April 13, 2007, in Reformed Church Home, Old Bridge. He co-directed the annual carnival at St. Ambrose Church, Old Bridge, for several years. Surviving are a daughter, Ellen of Shelby, N.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Kathy of Kansas City, Mo.; and two grandsons. Services were private. A memorial celebrating Mr. Arthur's life is planned for 3-5 p.m. on May 19 at the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh, Old Bridge. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's disease research.
