The Saint Genesius Players (SGP) young people's group, SGP Generations, will present "Narnia: The Musical" at 8 p.m. on June 1 and 8 and 7 p.m. on June 2 and 9 at Sampson G. Smith School, Amwell Road, Somerset section of Franklin. The show, a musical version of the classic story of Narnia based on the book "The Chronicles of Narnia," is staffed by students under the age of 18. Director is Tim Price, 17, of Bridgewater. Musical director is Christopher Sabol, 17, of Marlboro. Choreographer is Mandy Crawford, 11, of Linden. St. Vincent de Paul Walkathon planned
The annual St. Vincent de Paul Society Walkathon is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. on June 2 in the parking lot at St. Bartholomew's Church, 460 Ryders Lane, East Brunswick. Three scenic routes, ranging from one-fourth of a mile to approximately three miles, have been mapped out. The event, which is open to all family members, will feature the walk and prizes. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a lay organization of volunteers dedicated to helping those in need, regardless of religious affiliation. Travolta film on tap for Movies in the Park
The Sayreville Recreation Department will sponsor a Movies in the Park event with the screening of a musical starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John at 9 p.m. on June 23 at Kennedy Park, Washington Road. Law panel to offer wills, estate planning seminar
The New Jersey State Bar Foundation will present a free public seminar on wills and estate planning from 7-9 p.m. on June 5 at the New Jersey Law Center, One Constitution Square (off Ryders Lane), New Brunswick. Topics will include wills and trusts, gift and tax planning, New Jersey probate procedures, power of attorney, living wills, federal estate tax and New Jersey inheritance tax. Curtain to rise on 'Lost in Yonkers' The Sayreville Main Street Theatre Company will stage its production of Neil Simon's "Lost in Yonkers" at 8 p.m. on June 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23 and 2 p.m. on June 10 at the Main Street Theatre, 3018 Bordentown Ave., Parlin section of Sayreville. Winner of a Pulitzer Prize, the play is set in 1942 Yonkers, N.Y., and features the battle between an older woman and her 35-year-old daughter. The Main Street production is directed by Michael Driscoll of Linden, artistic director of Alliance Repertory, a professional theater company in residence at the Union County Arts Center. Actors include Lona Alpert of Far Hills as Grandma Kurnitz, Michelle Riklan of Marlboro as Bella, Catherine Rowe as Aunt Gert, Michael Vogel of the Colonia section of Woodbridge as Uncle Louie and Kevin Gunther as the father. Alborada to dance in 'Sephardic Connection' The Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre will present its production of "The Sephardic Connection: The Story of the Spanish Jews" at 8 p.m. on June 9 at George Street Playhouse, 9 Livingston Ave., New Brunswick. The cross-cultural performance will bring together the traditions of the Sephardic Jews (Sephardim) with Spanish, Turkish and Moroccan dance and music in an effort to depict the Sephardim's lives prior to and after their exodus from Spain in 1492. Sephardic Jewish families were already found in Spain when the Romans settled the Iberian Peninsula in the second century. In the ninth century the Moors (Moroccan Arabs) conquered southern Spain, and for the next 500 years their culture dominated the region. Sephardic music ensemble The Noga Group and cantorial singer Laurie Fechter also will appear in the production. Albroada will perform the "petenera," a dramatic flamenco dance about the suffering of the Sephardim. Other dances will include the "siguiryas," a flamenco dance with noticeable Middle-Eastern rhythms, and the "bulerías," featuring Moroccan rhythms. Guest artists the Daughters of Sophia Tribal Dance Troupe and Ramzi Edlibi will perform dance forms in the Sephardic style. Other highlights will include a fusion music-and-dance piece set to the traditional Jewish dance "miserlou" by Alborada executive and artistic director Eva Lucena, and a new music composition, "Tangos de Oliva," by Alborada music director Carlos Revollar. Tickets cost $23 per person, $20 with group discount, $17 for seniors/students. Golden Circle tickets (preferred seating and post-show champagne reception) are available for $50 each. Sacred Heart Carnival planned for May 23-26 The annual Sacred Heart Parish Carnival will be held from 6-10 p.m. on May 23, 24, 25 and 26 in the church parking lot, Washington Avenue, South Amboy. Rummage sale planned for June at E.B. temple
The East Brunswick Jewish Center Sisterhood will sponsor its spring rummage sale at the synagogue, located at 511 Ryders Lane. Items for sale will include clothing for children and adults, household items, small appliances, toys, books, etc. The rummage sale will be held June 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and June 18 from 9 a.m. to noon.
