Corps seeks volunteers for Trails Day cleanup

Volunteers are invited to assist with trail building and cleanup beginning at 9:30 a.m. on June 2 at the 1,700-acre John A. Phillips Preserve, west of Route 18 near Maple Street and Pleasant Valley Road, Old Bridge. Light refreshments will be served at 9 a.m. The event, which is sponsored by the Middlesex County Conservation Corps, will be held as part of the 15th annual National Trails Day.

A program of the American Hiking Society, National Trails Day is designed to give Americans a chance to celebrate the 200,000 miles of trails that offer opportunities for exercise, study, photography, camping, relaxation and solitude.

The Conservation Corps, which is administered by the Middlesex County Department of Parks and Recreation, organizes cleanups, tree plantings and trail building to protect and maintain the more than 6,000 acres of open space owned by Middlesex County. Groups and individuals are welcome to volunteer for the Old Bridge event. Advance registration is required.

For more information and to register, call Rick Lear at (732) 745-5988.
