MX Kids Racing to aid children with cancer
MX Kids Racing for Hope Motocross Races will be held on June 9 at Raceway Park, Old Bridge. The event will kick off at 7 a.m. with rider sign-up, followed by practice at 9 a.m. Racing will begin at 10:30 a.m. The event, which will benefit Embrace Kids Foundation/The Institute for Children with Cancer and Blood Disorders, New Brunswick, will feature 15 motocross races in various age categories. The idea for the fundraiser came from Rocky Cagno, a 9-year-old student at Frost Elementary School, East Brunswick. Rocky saw a lemonade stand fundraiser to benefit kids with cancer and was inspired to combine his love of motocross with his passion for helping others. With 43 riders, the 2006 event raised $25,000 for Embrace Kids Foundation. To date, more than 65 riders have signed up for the 2007 event. The fundraiser will feature an appearance by Jeff Emig, a motocross racer in the 1990s. Racers who collect a minimum of $250 in donations will be eligible for a drawing for a Yamaha KLX 110 or a Honda CRF 50; participants who collect $500 in donations will receive two chances to win the prizes. The day also will feature hole-shot awards and a raffle for racing gear and supplies. For more information or to sign up to participate, log on to the Embrace Kids Foundation/Institute for Children Web site at www.theinstituteforchildren.org, e-mail the Cagno family at rmcagno@comcast.net, or call Rocky's father, Rocco Cagno, at (732) 266-0306.
