Candidate withdraws from Democratic ticket
Misiewicz to remain as chairman of boro Planning Board
BY MICHAEL ACKER
Staff Writer

SAYREVILLE - A Democratic candidate for Borough Council has withdrawn from this November's race.

Dr. John S. Misiewicz dropped out of the campaign, citing personal reasons and philosophical differences with this party's leadership.

His running mates, current Democratic Council President Thomas Pollando, who is running for mayor against Republican incumbent Kennedy O'Brien, and incumbent Councilman Daniel Buchanan will remain on the ballot. The party is expected to soon name a third candidate to replace Misiewicz.

O'Brien is running for reelection on a GOP ticket that features council candidates David Kaiserman and Vince Zarcaro.

At present, O'Brien is the only Republican member of the governing body, as the Democrats hold all six seats on the Borough Council.

Misiewicz, who operates a chiropractic business in town, plans to continue as chairman of the borough's Planning Board.

He announced his resignation too late for his party to replace his name on the June primary election ballot, according to state Assemblyman John Wisniewski, who is chairman of the borough's Democratic party.

"It's unfortunate that Dr. Misiewicz will not be able to stay on, and we wish him well," Wisniewski said in a statement. "The committee will do everything they can to select a qualified candidate to join the Democratic council ticket so that we can create a brighter future for Sayreville."

Wisniewski will convene a meeting of the Sayreville Democratic Committee to select a candidate to take Misiewicz's place for the general election.

"The selection process will be no different than when Dr. Misiewicz was chosen, but because of the timing of his resignation, the new candidate will not be able to have his or her name placed on the ballot in time for June's election," Wisniewski said.

Misiewicz said that his reasons for dropping out are related to personal commitments, as well as philosophical differences between himself and both Wisniewski and Pollando. He added that he decided to drop out of the race after consulting with his family.

"I wish the party well," Misiewicz said.

Pollando declined to comment on Misiewicz's withdrawal from the race.

Wisniewski said he expects the Democratic committee to meet this week to discuss the new candidate.

"John Misiewicz sent me a letter saying he had personal and family reasons for not running, and I will l leave it at that," he said.
