The Cheesequake U12 baseball team captured the Old Bridge Mayor's Trophy by winning all three of their games with a combined score of 24-0. While outscoring Madison Park, Old Bridge, and Laurence Harbor Little League, Cheesequake allowed only three hits, while pounding out an outstanding 23, highlighted by Bobby Dunn's no-hitter.
With an 11-run third inning in game one, Cheesequake secured a 13-0 win against Madison Park. Stephen Meigh and James Pancetti each knocked in two runs with back-to-back doubles that broke open the game. Pitcher Bobby Dunn threw his first no-hitter while allowing only one base runner to reach second base. Max Gottlieib was strong at first base while shortstop George Pagan played a solid game to preserve the gem.
A pitching duel in game two saw Cheesequake's Will Dowdell and Old Bridge's Tom Garvey match zeros for five innings. The scoreless tie was broken as Nik Remshefski, of Cheesequake, hit a sixth-inning sacrifice fly to drive in Max Gottlieib. Will Dowdell made it stand up, as he threw a two-hitter in the 1-0 victory. Nick Benigno and Dwayne Trawick made strong plays in the field to help secure the win.
In the championship game against Laurence Harbor Little League, the tone was set as Tom Cusick made an outstanding play at third base on the opening pitch. After retiring the side in the top of the first, Sean Rappleyea saw 10 of the first 11 Cheesequake batters score to put the game away. Cheesequake never looked back in posting a 10-0 victory over Laurence Harbor. Max Gottlieb led Cheesequake with three hits while Kitan Sampat sealed the victory with strong defensive play. Sean Rappleyea allowed a lone infield single and no runner to reach third base. Overall, the Cheesequake players allowed no runs and only three hits in three outstanding games at Madison Park to win the Mayor's U12 Trophy. Congratulations go out to manager John Remshefski, coaches Joe Dunn, John Pancetti, Warren Rappleyea and all the Cheesequake players.
