The Old Bridge Hustlers U12 softball team won its 28th straight game recently by defeating the Lady Yellow Jackets 5-2 in the championship game of the ISA Fast National qualifier at Bert Willis Park in Neptune. The Hustlers went 5-0 over the weekend by defeating the Yellow Jackets, 4-0, Wall Wizards, 11-0, and Central Jersey Lightning, 14-4, in seeding rounds. Sunday action paired the Hustlers against both Wall and the Yellow Jackets again, with Old Bridge defeating Wall, 12-4, in the semifinals before finishing off the Yellow Jackets in the final. With the victories the Hustlers improved to 32-1-1 while capturing its fifth tournament championship this season, as well as receiving a paid berth to the ISA World series held in Myrtle Beach in July.

On May 26 the Hustlers continued their success by winning their sixth straight tournament and 35th straight game by winning the Hamilton Tournament by defeating Hopewell Valley, 6-0, Hamilton Hurricanes, 3-0, and Bucks County, Pa., 7-4, in the final game.

With the victories the Hustlers improved to 38-1-1 and have won the Old Bridge Open, Tri-State, Lincoln Park, Mid Jersey Cup, Jersey Intensity, ISA May Madness and Hamilton Tournaments in the spring 2007 season.

The Hustlers travel to Berkeley Township to participate in the Shark Invitational on Saturday.

The Old Bridge Lightning, a 9U travel baseball team out of Sayrewoods South in Old Bridge, competed over the Memorial Day weekend in the ninth annual Cheesequake Memorial Day Tournament, going 2-1 in pool play. They beat the Manalapan Cyclones in a 5-2 game. This was the first tourney the team has entered.

The Sayreville Recreation Department will begin registering for the summer horseshoe league. A meeting will be held on June 6 at the Mickey Sedlak Building on Dolan Street at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the league. For more information, call (732) 390-7092 or (732) 390-7096.
