References by last name were disrespectful

As a parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge, since 1978, I was happy to see the well-deserved front-page article on Msgr. John Szymanski ("Pastor reflects on four decades of leadership," Suburban, June 7). The constant reference to the good monsignor as "Szymanski" was rather disrespectful. Perhaps the use of the titles Msgr. or Rev. would have been more appropriate.

Editor's note: Greater Media Newspapers, which uses Associated Press style guidelines, did not intend any disrespect for the monsignor.
