Farm to Table slated at EARTH Center
Elijah's Promise Culinary School will host its annual Farm to Table event at 6:30 p.m. on July 16 at the Middlesex County EARTH Center, home to Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County, in Davidson's Mill Pond Park, South Brunswick. The goal of the EARTH Center is to educate Central Jersey residents on the concept of environmental stewardship. The aim of the Farm to Table series is to bring attention to the value of purchasing locally grown produce, which reduces pollution produced by shipping food long distances and encourages growers to continue farming and preserving open space, rather than selling off acreage to developers. Guests at the event also will experience the preparation methods used by chefs to get the most enjoyment out of seasonal crops. The food picked from the EARTH Center's more than 12,000-square-foot vegetable garden and prepared by Elijah's Promise chefs will be available for tasting. Suggested donation is $10. Registration is required by July 12. The event will take place rain or shine. For more information and to register, call (732) 545-9002, ext. 110, or e-mail btaylor@elijahspromise.net.
