Fun Day to feature healthy-living tips

In an effort to help battle childhood obesity and get families on a healthy track, Middlesex County 4-H will host a Get Moving-Get Healthy 4-H Family Fun Day at 2 p.m. on July 22 at the 4-H Center, Cranbury Road, East Brunswick. Fun Day is a component of the 2007 Healthy Living Grant, in collaboration with Kraft Foods Inc.

According to a report by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, the number of overweight and obese children in New Jersey is higher than the national average. The Rutgers Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development Department has identified childhood obesity as a priority issue and continues to educate young people and adults about nutrition, fitness and positive lifestyles.

Participants in 4-H Family Fun events (which will be held in counties throughout the state) will be involved in hands-on activities to teach all family members about healthy-eating habits, exercise, snacks and more. At the end of the event, each family will set goals for its members to work together to achieve.

For more information on the events, call (732) 398-5261.
