Middlesex County Fair Aug. 6-12 in East Brunswick

The 2007 Middlesex County Fair will take place Aug. 6-12 at the fairgrounds at 655 Cranbury Road in East Brunswick.

Amateur crafters, artists, photographers, bakers, canners, and those who sew are invited to take part in "home arts" competitions at the event. There are also categories for vegetables, fruit and flowers. Participants may preregister or simply bring items to the fairgrounds Aug. 5 between 1 and 5 p.m. Divisions include adult, children (by age), and special-needs participants.

First-, second- and third-place as well as honorable mention ribbons may be awarded in each class. The articles remain on display in the home arts building for the entire fair. The fair will also feature rides, 4-H exhibits, food, and vendors.

'Preserving Herbs' seminar coming to park

The Middlesex County EARTH Center, home to Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County, in Davidson's Mill Pond Park, South Brunswick, will offer a workshop titled "Preserving Herbs" from 6:00-8:30 p.m. on July 26.

Guest presenter will be Donna Pemberton, Middlesex County master gardener and frequent guest on NJN Public Television's "If Plants Could Talk." Workshop participants will learn how to utilize excess herbs at the end of the gardening season by making herb-flavored vinegars.

Registration is required by July 20. Program fee is $30. Class size is limited.
