Nine cars burglarized in two neighborhoods BY MICHAEL ACKER Staff Writer
SAYREVILLE - A series of car burglaries were reported in two borough neighborhoods last weekend. In all cases, the owners had left their vehicles unlocked while parked outside their homes, police said.
Two of the car burglaries occurred Friday in the area east of the intersection of Ernston Road and Bordentown Avenue. The other neighborhood, east of the intersection of Pulaski Avenue and Main Street and west of Fielek Park, had seven cars entered on Saturday night.
In the neighborhood near Ernston Road, a vehicle was entered outside a residence on Becker Drive. Stolen were two checkbooks and $5 in cash from the vehicle's trunk sometime between midnight and 6 a.m. The victim's bank accounts have since been frozen.
Theft from a motor vehicle was reported outside a residence on nearby Albert Drive, and Pioneer Radio Unit worth $235 was stolen from the unlocked car sometime after 12:30 a.m.
In the neighborhood near Fielek Park, seven burglaries occurred between Saturday night and Sunday morning. Two of them were reported on the driveway of a residence on Snyder Avenue. An unknown suspect or suspects stole an $80 Cobra radar detector, $195 worth of gift cards, and $138 in cash from the two unlocked motor vehicles between 10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.
Theft from a motor vehicle was reported outside another Snyder Avenue residence. In that case, the suspect or suspects stole a Sunoco gas card from the glove box.
Thefts from three motor vehicles were reported outside a residence on nearby Virginia Street. One of the cars was parked on the front lawn of the property and the other two were on the road near the house. The burglaries occurred sometime between midnight and 9:30 a.m.
Another theft occurred outside a neighboring residence on Virginia Street. The unknown suspect or suspects reportedly stole a portable DVD player worth $150 from the unlocked vehicle sometime after 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
