Bass Levin example of system's problems

New Jersey Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Susan Bass Levin has become my poster child for all that is wrong with the New Jersey retirement system for elected and appointed public officials (servants?).

Reportedly she is wealthy, has a $220,000 position on our Port Authority Board, and yet needs a $12,000 obscure position as one of the thousands "serving" New Jersey on various patronage commissions. This last so she qualifies for lifetime medical benefits and a full pension.

How does Gov. Jon Corzine think? Remember, Susan Bass Levin is just one. We need a total of all costs statewide. Could New Jersey use this money for schools, transportation, police ... ?
