Sports Shorts The Sayreville 10-year-old All Star team had an outstanding year and made it the District 10 championship game, before losing to a tough Kenilworth team, 4-1, in the final. In reaching the District 10 championship game, the team recorded nine wins and three losses, and finished in first place in the pool play round. Some of the highlights in the pool play included wins over Woodbridge, 16-3, Metuchen, 10-4, Carteret, 11-4 and eventual District 10 winner Kenilworth, 2-0. In the double elimination round, the Sayreville 10-year-old All Stars eliminated Milltown, 7-2, Old Bridge, 14-12, and beat Kenilworth 9-1. Members of the Sayreville 10-year-old All-Star team include Kevin Krolick, Anthony Lavigne, Zack Doring, Mike Marcincyk, Nolan Rivera, Pat Braine, David Adasczik, Ryan Moran, Connor Drabik, Ryan Shereyka, Alex Kozinski, and Dan Rodriguez. The coaches were Pat Braine and Mike Marcincyk, and the manager was Dan Moran.
The Cheesequake U10 Slammers of Old Bridge took home the first-place trophy in the Madison Park Tournament this past week. The first game against Madison Park ended with a 15-4 victory. Highlights of the game included a solo home run by pitcher Billy Layne in the fourth and a textbook double play by first baseman Sam Allen and third baseman PJ Driskill. Game two against Edison ended in a 12-1 victory. Pitcher Mike Mohin only gave up one hit for the Slammers. Game three ended in a tight 1-0 win against Sayreville. Highlights for the Slammers included five outs at first base by first baseman Sam Allen, and two pick-offs by catcher PJ Driskill. Game four against Woodbridge was another victory for the Slammers, ending in a score of 10-4. The Slammers then went on to finish the tournament with a 9-0 victory over Sayreville. Pitchers Mike Mohin and Billy Lanye combined to allow just two hits with 11 strike-outs. The Slammers team includes Sean Ferrano, Joe Aldorasi, PJ Driskill, Billy Layne, Charlie Harber, Sam Allen, Jonathan Dooling, Jonathan Gerdes, Mike Mohin, Tyler Mazza and PJ Braccia. The team was managed by Pat Driskill. Head coach was Bill Layne and assistant coach was Tim Ferrano.
