Flooding, mitigation to be topic of meeting

The Lawrence Brook Watershed Partnership is inviting government officials, regional land use planners and interested residents to attend its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 21 at the Milltown Senior Center, 60 Violet Terrace, Milltown. The guest speaker will be John A. Miller, P.E., CFM, who will give a presentation titled "Planning for Floods and Local Mitigation."

Miller is the New Jersey president of the American Waters Resources Association and a regional director and board member of the Association of State Floodplain Managers. Miller serves on the New Jersey Governor's Flood Mitigation Task Force and in many capacities regarding planning and storm water controls in Lambertville.

The meeting will include time for discussion and refreshments. The Lawrence Brook Watershed Partnership is a nonprofit volunteer organization with environmental interests in East Brunswick, North Brunswick, South Brunswick, Milltown and New Brunswick. Milltown rec schedules trip, youth programs

The Milltown Department of Recreation will sponsor several upcoming events.

All trips and programs are open to residents and nonresidents.

A four-week Fall Youth Art Odyssey program for ages 4-16 is planned for Sept. 8-29. Call the rec office for times and pricing.

Participants are sought for a Fundamental 4s Fall Soccer program open to 4-year-olds. Registration deadline is Sept. 10. The six-week session will begin on Sept. 22.

Registration is going on for a Fall Youth Soccer program, open to youngsters in kindergarten-eighth grade. The eight-week session will begin Sept. 8. Deadline for signups is Aug. 31.

An excursion to The Bronx Zoo is planned for Sept. 30. Cost is $25 per person for adults, $21 for children, $22 for seniors. Fee includes bus transportation and admission to the zoo. The bus will depart from Borough Hall at 9 a.m. Registration deadline is Sept. 14.

SRHS class of 1967 to celebrate at reunion

South River High School (SRHS) class of 1967 will hold a 40-year reunion from 6-11 p.m. on Sept. 29 at Ria Mar Restaurant, 25 Whitehead Ave., South River. The event will coincide with SRHS homecoming weekend.

Cost is $65 per person and includes beer, wine, soda, appetizers, buffet dinner and dessert. A DJ will provide music from 7-11 p.m.
